What do you think about electronic book and magazine readers like the Kindle and iPad?

With Amazon’s announcement this week that sales of digital books were greater than sales of hardbacks, it’s clear that e-readers are here to stay. What do you think about this shift in the reading experience? Are you or do you see yourself becoming a convert?

I love them and I have an e-book reader (12.2%)

I prefer the physical experience of a book or magazine (34.9%)

I'm not planning to get an e-reader but I think it is a neat device and can be very convenient (52.9%)

My boyfriend has 2 iPads and I always read on one of them. It is an interesting reading experience. Very different. I prefer the physical book or magazine, but the iPad has its perks.

I had the opportunity to use an ebook from our school district. I think it is a convenient and nifty device. But when thinking of lying on the beach and reading, I do not want to ruin such an expensive "book".

I have a difficult time retaining what I read on computer screens. Some have suggested to me that it is the slight background flicker present in the screen that does it. Whatever the reason, if I am reading to learn or retain information e-books are not my friend. What I do love is that the library now allows me to download audio books to my Ipod free of charge. I use those constantly while I work to relieve the tedium.

I personally have never had an e-reader so I can't really say one way or the other but I love to read and I do most of my reading befor I go to sleep. I think that not turning pages and losing your place would be a plus for a e-reader.

I also have a difficult time retaining information from what I've read on a computer screen. I prefer reading an actual magazine or a book.

I am not a reader but feel it is a wonderful device for those who are.

I absolutely love my Nook! It's by Barnes & Noble. My husband bought it for me a few months ago, and I don't go anywhere without it! I didn't really like the Sony ereader (I messed with one at the store) and the iPad was too much like my iPhone, only bigger, and I didn't really like the look of the Kindle, and I loved the way the Nook worked with me when I messed with it in the store. Love it!!!!

I love to read and read a book a week. I didn't think I would like an e-reader but have two apps on my iTouch, love it, and now would like to purchase an actual e-reader or iPad for the larger screen. The convenience is great! I just wish they would create a waterproof version or casing for use while in the tub or floating in the pool! ;-)

I'm old fashioned I think when it comes to books and magazines. I love the feel of the pages turning, the smell of the book. Holding the book in my hand. Not some other electronic to read it. I'm a huge bookworm and don't see me leaving my real books vs. having to read them on a screen.

Until you can "check out" books, like through a library it wouldn't be much use to me
