When you eat out with friends, do you split the bill evenly, contribute just what you ate, or take turns paying? Do you use Venmo, PayPal, credit cards, cash or something else? How has this changed since mobile payments became commonplace? Tell us your favorite bill-paying strategies and you'll be entered to win $25 toward your next meal (paid how you want to spend it: Venmo, PayPal, or Amazon gift card!) Enter through September 30, 2018. Winner will be randomly selected and must be a U.S. resident at least 18 years of age.

If it?s something like a brunch buffet, where everyone is paying roughly the same amount, we put our cards in the folder and ask it to be split evenly. If everyone is ordering drastically different priced things, we figure out each person?s portion and write how much to charge to each card. It seems like no one carries much cash anymore, and the topic of splitting bills using PayPal or Venmo has literally never come up. I still don?t even know what the difference is between PayPal and Venmo.

We usually split among everyone, but when that doesn?t work, usually one person pays the whole bill and then request payments via Facebook.

When we eat out with friends, we each pay for our own meals and there is no confusion or expectations because this is determined before we get to the restaurant.

Often we just take turns paying the bill! Or, we each pay our share for what we ordered. Sometimes, we all split it evenly. I guess we do a little bit of everything HAHA! If we can all split it evenly on our credit cards we do that (for example have them run 3 credit cards). I haven't really used a money sharing service.

When I eat out with female friends, we usually split the bill 50/50 or pay for just what we each ate and split the tip. I noticed that when I?m eating out with my husband and male friends, they tend to take turns paying the whole bill. I find it too difficult to keep track of who paid the last time we ate out, so I prefer the 50/50 approach or the pay for your own food approach. We usually pay with credit cards unless the bill is rather small and then we use cash. I/we have never used any kind of mobile payment. It just seems unnecessarily complicated

I have actually found the simplest way is just to take turns paying for everyone. I hate it when people are taking out calculators and reading glasses and taking bloody forever - "let's see, you had two drinks and I only had one." Bleah - life is too short.

We usually just split the bill equally. Occasionally, someone "treats", but it all evens out over time - no one is trying to get a free ride. My theory has always been if these are people I'm happy to share a meal with, then I'm certainly not going to quibble over "under/over" of someone's meal choice prices. I *do* have another set of friends that gather once a year in a chosen city (usually in the US, but occasionally overseas) for 3-5 days. We have a big dinner the second night, chosen by whoever happens to live in/near that city. Generally there are one or two people who like to use a credit card for the travel/cash back/merch points, and we just give our portion of the equally divided amount in cash to that person.
