When you eat out with friends, do you split the bill evenly, contribute just what you ate, or take turns paying? Do you use Venmo, PayPal, credit cards, cash or something else? How has this changed since mobile payments became commonplace? Tell us your favorite bill-paying strategies and you'll be entered to win $25 toward your next meal (paid how you want to spend it: Venmo, PayPal, or Amazon gift card!) Enter through September 30, 2018. Winner will be randomly selected and must be a U.S. resident at least 18 years of age.

Unless it's a special occasion (birthday, achievement, etc.) and one is paying for the other(s), we ask for separate checks with friends. If it's family, my rotate who foots the entire bill. I am from an "older" generation, so mobile payments are not on our radar for dining out.

We usually pull out the calculators and everyone pays for what they ordered plus a tip.

Separate checks are the easiest. They won?t do separate checks, if we all spent roughly the same amount we just split the check. If someone spent a lot more or a lot less, then everyone pays for what they ordered. We usually end up with several credit cards and jot down which amount for which cards or we end up with a combination of cards and cash. The funniest one was many years ago when a bunch of us, like 9 people, went out to each and every one of us needed change for a 20. Would have been nice to have apps back then for transferring money!

It depends on the situation. If we're out with some friends we tend to take turns - we'll get the check one time and they'll get it the next. For extended family, we usually split evenly between multiple credit cards.

Separate checks always. It just makes sense and it is easier.

Always get separate checks. Very few places won't do that.

We usually get individual bills and each pays their own.

We usually split the bill evenly with either cards or cash (unless it's a special occasion)

Quite often when going out to eat we just rotate who pays each time, instead of bothering to split the bill in any form.
