What do you think Valentine's Day is really about? Our SheSpeaks members have overwhelmingly told us that it's really just a reminder to say "I love you." That's more important than a romantic grand gesture. And even more important than an excuse to break a diet.
Say "I love you" with more than just heart chocolates and red roses! Check out these new ways to show the special people in your life how much you really care. Plus, win $75 to use on someone you love (including yourself.)
Do a tasting of favorite foods or drinks! If your partner loves craft beers, get a selection of local beers with some small tasting glasses. Sample them to find both of your favorites. If your kids love mint chocolate chip ice cream, have a sundae party by buying a variety of brands and see which one they like the best. The possibilities of foods to taste and drinks to sample are endless. Tastings are a unique way to show the people YOU love that you care about the things THEY love. (And if you really need chocolate on Valentine's Day, at least make it fun with a chocolate tasting!)
Get an herb bouquet! Move beyond roses to something that will last longer and make your dinner taste delicious. According to PureWow, beautiful pots filled with plants such as rosemary, lavender, mint, chamomile and sage are the latest trend. Visit a local nursery to put it together yourself, or buy it already assembled. It's a different way to give flowers, and your recipient will remember it and think of you throughout the year.
Pick a class you can do together. Think about something your Valentine has always wanted to learn how to do, like decorate a cake, try rock climbing, or speak Chinese. Whatever it is, choose the class together. Then look around your area. Clases can be found at local colleges, community centers, museums, or even neighborhood shops. Plan a day and make it happen. You'll not only learn something, but it's a great bonding experience.
Spend the day in your Pjs! This is fun for you to do with your partner, your family, your friends, or even on your own. Get cozy and binge-watch some movies, play board games, or snuggle with a good book. Eat candy for lunch and order in dinner. Just enjoy your time doing very little.

I make Valentine's Day special by giving small memorable and thoughtful gifts.
Steps to making Valentines special: 1. Decorate by spreading paper hearts everywhere....floor, stairs, counters, bathroom floor. Then put a little pink food coloring in the toilet to turn water pink! 2. Next, head to the kitchen to make pink heart shaped pancakes and a glass of strawberry milk 3. Turn the music on with your favorite love songs 4. Spend the day with your valentine-dancing in your pajamas, watching your favorite chick flick, going outside and enjoying the day. 5. Pick up pizza and your favorite beverage and enjoy dinner by candlelight. 4.
Making steak and potatoes and homemade chocolate pudding with whip cream.
I will call my dad--who will be 100 years old in a few months--and wish him a happy valentine's day (and remind him that I am coming for a visit next week).
I will make Valentine's Day special by making something homemade like chocolate-covered strawberries.
We will have a nice home-cooked meal, not sure what yet though!
I will make Valentine Day special by preparing a meal with each family member's favorite part of dinner. Steak, shrimp, baked potatoes, salad and my daughter's favorite - a pan full of brownies served with ice cream.
I am oh-so-very-happily single, so this Valentine's Day, I'll be taking myself on a "pamper me" day! I have never had a massage, manicure or pedicure, so this is the year of firsts for me to celebrate a day for myself. I know that restaurants will be jam-packed in the evening, so I'm also going to take myself out to lunch. I always put everyone's needs ahead of my own (siblings, their children's, etc.) so I'm very excited for my day! ♥
I will send cards to my niece and nephew with $2 bills in them because I think that is cool
I normally cook a special meal and we spend the day together. Sometimes we exchange gifts but not always. I'm not really a "things" persons.
I like to spoil my kids with chocolate and balloons!
Love having a simple day just a dinner and a movie
Staying home, special dinner, and lack of clothing, nothing fancy but something I rarely do :)
A relaxing dinner in!
I will cook a special dinner for my family on Valentine's Day.
