What do you think Valentine's Day is really about? Our SheSpeaks members have overwhelmingly told us that it's really just a reminder to say "I love you." That's more important than a romantic grand gesture. And even more important than an excuse to break a diet.
Say "I love you" with more than just heart chocolates and red roses! Check out these new ways to show the special people in your life how much you really care. Plus, win $75 to use on someone you love (including yourself.)
Do a tasting of favorite foods or drinks! If your partner loves craft beers, get a selection of local beers with some small tasting glasses. Sample them to find both of your favorites. If your kids love mint chocolate chip ice cream, have a sundae party by buying a variety of brands and see which one they like the best. The possibilities of foods to taste and drinks to sample are endless. Tastings are a unique way to show the people YOU love that you care about the things THEY love. (And if you really need chocolate on Valentine's Day, at least make it fun with a chocolate tasting!)
Get an herb bouquet! Move beyond roses to something that will last longer and make your dinner taste delicious. According to PureWow, beautiful pots filled with plants such as rosemary, lavender, mint, chamomile and sage are the latest trend. Visit a local nursery to put it together yourself, or buy it already assembled. It's a different way to give flowers, and your recipient will remember it and think of you throughout the year.
Pick a class you can do together. Think about something your Valentine has always wanted to learn how to do, like decorate a cake, try rock climbing, or speak Chinese. Whatever it is, choose the class together. Then look around your area. Clases can be found at local colleges, community centers, museums, or even neighborhood shops. Plan a day and make it happen. You'll not only learn something, but it's a great bonding experience.
Spend the day in your Pjs! This is fun for you to do with your partner, your family, your friends, or even on your own. Get cozy and binge-watch some movies, play board games, or snuggle with a good book. Eat candy for lunch and order in dinner. Just enjoy your time doing very little.

Spent a whole day and night with my loved ones and enjoy the time I have together with them.
Going to dinner with with loved ones
I had the flu on Valentine's Day unfortunately. 😢
Taking a cooking class together would be nice... and fun! Also, instead of normal flowers get edible arrangement.
My kids and I always create DIY Valentine's Gifts for each other. I think it means alot more when you take the time to create a gift rather than buy one.
I live in a community where there is a larger number of deaf individuals and a School Campus dor the hearinf impaired. My Fiance (valentine) has always stated he wants to take sign language classes so he can give back and be involved more in the community that we love being a part of. So foe this Valentine's day I auoeiaed him with beginners sign language classes we are taking together.
SO many good ideas!
I think hand made items speak more from the heart, so that is what me loves will be getting, along with chocolate of course!
Would love to win, I would take him to his favorite steak house. That is really all he cares about.
Unfortunately things didn't go as planned . it was a horror fest... I could really use a do over. I would hate to have V Day become a holiday that we do not celebrate because of regret
Make a basket with all his favorite goodies then cook dinner and dessert and put on a movie I know he will enjoy!
I reminded people of how much I love them.
I usually let my girls pick out a box of chocolate and get them a stuffed bear and have a movie night that weekend.
Heart shaped linzer tarts from our local bakery! Plus notes in everyone's lunches. xoxoxo
I treat my valentine by not expecting too much on Valentine's Day. My birthday is the next week so we do something special on that day. But I also do buy him loads of his favorite candy! Conversation hearts are a seasonal fav!
