SheSpeaks Members Weigh-in on The Future of Work

   By SheSpeaksTeam  Oct 04, 2023

In September, SheSpeaks embarked on a multigenerational study to better understand how women view work. Thousands of SheSpeaks members weighed-in and took the survey!

The pandemic has changed the way we engage with work -- but it has especially altered women's roles in the workforce. In a post-pandemic world, women across generations, from boomers to Gen Z, are either struggling to start their career, reenter the workforce, or climb the promotion ladder.
Today, we are releasing the "Multigenerational Women and the Future of Work Study" polling 2,000+ women in the U.S. between the ages of 18-74.
SheSpeaks and Luminary commissioned the study to further explore women's changing attitudes toward work and how they can reshape the workforce.

Here are a few themes that emerged from the study:

  1. Work gives women self-esteem but doesn't necessarily define them.
  2. Women want the flexibility to work from home but recognize that they may not be as productive at home.
  3. Work/Life Balance and Ease of Commute are of top importance to women followed in third place by Compensation.
  4. Three Key Trends to Watch: Staying in Jobs Longer, Social Media Plays an Important Role in Career & The Rise of Side Hustle.
Additional key findings are in the following infographic.

Do you agree with the findings of the study? Please tell us in the comments.

I work from home and absolutely love it. Less stress and more flexible schedule. Been at my job for 12 years and plan on staying there.

Although I am now retired I used to work out of the home. My job never defined me- my character did that on its own. I believe a married woman should only work if necessary especially if there are children in the home. The mother's place is to nuture her husband & family. The Bible gives us the Lord's commandments as to how to live scripturally.

This was great, very informative and interesting. Weather you work at home or in the workplace as a professional or a Mom be proud of yourself.

I agree with the study. Work gives women self esteem. Women, also like being flexible, such as working at home. Also, the ease of commuting is important. Women, also, have a tendency to stay with jobs longer. Social media plays a role for the working women. Women that are working have a tendency to socialize more. Garnet R. Staley

I highly agree with the fundings of this study l! I think side hustles for women are definitely on the rise.

This tracks with what I have been reading and observing. I'm happy to see the percentage of women who are pursuing "side hustles" too.

Women are now expected to help bring income into the family. However, when we get home, our job is not done! We have to do all family things. Women just don't get enough credit for doing everything!
