The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations. Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what. Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year. So, have you given it any thought?
More than I did last year (9.6%)
The same as I did last year (30.4%)
Less than I did last year (52.5%)
I'm not sure (7.6%)
I think this year I am going to try to make more gifts. Things are just getting too expensive! It it really almost fall??? WOW!!!
Seems like the prices of everything just keeps going up. The gas to go into town to shop alone will be about $100 one way. My fiance and I are just going to get things mostly for our families and do a nice quiet Christmas together with smaller gifts.
With the economy, I will spend less. My children are also getting older, so instead of buying a bunch of "junk", we may just take a trip and create memories instead of wasting money on gifts.
As a recent college grad, saving money to pay off loans is a priority. With rising prices in the economy this can be a difficult task. My holiday shopping plan this year is to hunt for bargains and put extra thought into each and every gift that I purchase.
We spent a fortune last year but now that our youngest has had "the talk" we are going to scale back a little. We're thinking of buying a few little things then one big "family" gift.
Hi, I'm new here! But I go to web sites offering free product samples and other free items and get them for Birthday and Chritmas gift giving. So far I have a tee shirt for my daughter, 2 dvd's for my grandson, a baby bottle for my nieces unborn baby, coloring books for all of the little ones, and books and cookbooks. So I'm not planning on spending a lot. I do this because I live on Social Security with my fiancee and we have no car or way to the store. He has Muscular dystrophy so all my time is spent taking care of him. I've known him 38 years and he's one of my best friends.
I'm saving up to buy my first house and my family and friends understand that. It will be difficult to scale back though. I love to shop and I love to give presents.
I try to cut down each year. With prices on everything rising, I will spend less this year or just shop for bargins.
I just love trying out new products,, That is how you learn about them and then you want to buy,,,,d
I will definitely be spending less. My hours were cut back at work and I have not been able to find anything to replace that yet. Luckily, my kids are older and they understand that we just can not afford to be frivilous.
