As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations.  Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what.  Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year.  So, have you given it any thought?

More than I did last year (9.6%)

The same as I did last year (30.4%)

Less than I did last year (52.5%)

I'm not sure (7.6%)

I will be spending more this year. We put back some of our tax return we got in Feb and have left it in savings for the year.

I'm only up $200 from last year but $200 makes a big difference in what the kids get!

I will probably be spending about the same as I did last year. My kids are 23 and 26 so now it's big items for the apartments. So there will be fewer gifts. Gas for the cars, heating the house will be a big factor.

I also do a lot of shopping online for books for my kids. I start in February picking things up for Christmas. It's easier that way, I just make sure I put them in bags with their names on it so I don't forget what I've already bought.

I plan on spending a little more this year as opposed to last year. This year, things have looked up for us finacially and because our christmas last year suffered from lack of funds, I would like this year to be a nice one for all three of my children.

We will be spending less. My husband lost his job & just got another, my hours were cut in January & haven't gotten better. I have 4 grandkids to buy for & it will be much slimmer this year. I will bake & send out goodies! Much more love there.

I will be trying desperately to spend less, but with increasing prices on everything it will be very difficult. I'm trying to think creatively and have come up with few ideas for some family memebers, however the ideas I'm pondering won't work for all of our family.

I set aside holiday funds weekly, so it doesn't hurt my wallet all at once. And already looking for fantastic sale items online and in-store. Hope to be as successful as I was last year.

My gifts to both my sons are going to be CASH. Same with my three youngest nieces and nephews. Cash.

And my niece's 3 boys are getting a lot of clothes from the Osh Kosh outlet store I have been shopping for bargains at all year. She has three kids to take care of on one income, so buying clothes for her kids helps her out.

Less frivolous purchases and more necessary items. I also plan to sponsor a child overseas as one of my gifts.
