As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations.  Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what.  Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year.  So, have you given it any thought?

More than I did last year (9.6%)

The same as I did last year (30.4%)

Less than I did last year (52.5%)

I'm not sure (7.6%)

As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

I enjoy shopping for my family and enjoy the expressions on their faces when they get something they've always wanted. But it has been a goal of mine to begin buying for families and children that don't have the resources to purchase gifts.

So sad the way the economy is affecting everyone. Usually when we have had ruff years everyone elects to may something homemade, normally food/treats. With food costs so high, especially baking goods, this will hamper our way of sharing with each other. I guess it's time to get the old family movies and photo's out to recall the special times we have had with each other. At least it's inexpensive.

This year my kids and I are making "homemade" presents for everyone. With expenses rising, I want my children to learn it isn't about how much you spend on a gift, but the love you put into the gift that counts.

With the way the economy is...we have to spend less. Thank goodness we are debt free and do not even own a credit card. We pay for Xmas in cash now and don't have to worry about bills in Jan. that we can't pay. It took us about 7 years to get debt free and we are staying that way. We are "rich" by not being in debt!

Ill spend more because I am giving gift certificates. They are easy to get so I always go overboard.
