As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations.  Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what.  Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year.  So, have you given it any thought?

More than I did last year (9.6%)

The same as I did last year (30.4%)

Less than I did last year (52.5%)

I'm not sure (7.6%)

As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

With the outlook on the economy and my boyfriends job is laying people off and cutting back hours, this holiday season will be less about presents and more about family.

My husband lost his job last year, so Christmas time was the bare minimum. This year we are planning on spending more now that he has a good job and a steady income again. Happy Shopping!

The economy is definitely on a downturn, and I don't see any end in sight. I may spend approximately the same amount, but I am a total bargain hunter so I always stretch my money. However, people should be prepared to give and receive considerably less. There are far more important things in life than what we get for Christmas.

I'm hoping to spend less! I would like to go ebay all the way! I've already started to collect things for my daughter. The hard part is not giving her the stuff before Christmas!

Last year my family and I didn't exchange gifts at all. It was a trial and it failed. Actually, only my sister enjoyed it, and at the time she was making the least. I am not a greedy individual at Christmas, but I do like a gift or two to unwrap!

We'll probably spend about the same ... but we have an extra little one now, so everyone will be getting a bit less.

I am spending less and getting creative with gifts. for example I am knitting my parents and in-laws blankets, I can choose the perfect colors and style plus it is just more exciting to get handmade gifts from the heart.
