If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

How many times have you gone into a store and thought, "Why is it like this? It could be so much better!" From the long lines at the wholesale clubs (because only half of the lanes are open!) to rude and inattentive sales people to messy racks at some stores where you can't find your size in the place its meant to be!  Some of our shopping experiences seem ripe for improvement!

If you were given the chance to make a shopping experience better, which type of store would it be and why?

Grocery Store (36.2%)

Department Store (7.6%)

Mass Merchandiser (Wal*Mart, Kmart, Target) (39.1%)

Club Store (Costco, Sam?s, etc.) (4.9%)

Discount Store (TJ Maxx, Filene?s, etc.) (6.5%)

Drug Store (1.6%)

Big Box Retailer (Home Depot, Staples, Toys R Us, etc.) (3.8%)

If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

My quick run to the grocery stores usually ends up being a 45 minute ordeal while I try to find a clerk to reach up to the top shelf to get the last two of an item that is pushed back to the back of the shelf and unless you are 6 feet tall you cannot reach it. I have complained multiple times to all of the stores involved and they still do not get it. I am 5 feet tall and cannot wear higher heels. This seems to happen at Giant, Wal-Mart, Genuardis and Acme. Also depending on the time of day uou almost never can find a clerk and you end up going to customer service to ask them to send someone which can add another 10 minutes to your trip.

We have twin girls who are 15 months old. Shopping can be so difficult if one of us has to take the girls by ourselves. All stores need carts that can hold two childred safely!

I love shopping discount stores for bargains, but the aisles are cluttered and messy most of the time. This makes pushing a cart or stroller very difficult. I have two children under 2 years of age. I rarely shop for more than a few minutes before becoming frustrated and leaving, unless I have help.

Grocery shopping is one of those chores that need to be done but I dread doing it. Recently I visited our local store to do my weekly shopping and would you believe it was another shopper and her daughter that bagged my purchases. I was very upset about this and threatened to stop shopping there. I have no problem bagging my own purchases but, when I shop at a store that provides that service than I expect it to be provided. Afterall that is a service I pay for. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I hope not. I'm hoping this will the only time something will ever happen again.

It seems as though the check-out lines are always too long. I think they should add more employees, but I know in these tough economy times that is not always possible. The other thing that drives me crazy is when all the cold stuff is at the back of the store, so when you are ready to check-out the cold stuff is now not so cold.

I agree with the lack of customer service with a smile. Most stores need less clutter. I don't think "more" merchandise means a better store.

I would love to see my local HEB double coupons. This would really help with my food budget. Also, grocery stores need to have more space between aisles, its like playing bumper cars now especially after 5pm or on Saturdays. And checkout is a nightmare at those times. All lanes should be open when there are more than 2 or 3 people in line. I would like to see more items that are made in the USA instead of having almost everything made in China.

All areas of retail need improvement. Employees need to be more courteous, knowledgeable about the product, know where it is located in the store, etc. How the stores merchandise products is to increase sales, but not necessarily consumer friendly. I believe that service is #1 is a priority in keeping a customer, product quality is #2.

I would like to see department work harder at selling the product, helping the cx. I have walked into a department store and had to wait aprox 10 minutes just for help. I think if your understaff i understand, but dont have ur cx standing there well she hears all about ur weekend..

I would like to see one really big isle with the everyday things on it that we run out of every week, i.e. milk, bread, eggs, cat food, cat litter, dog food, cereals, and maybe catsup, mayo and mustard. The walking around that huge store makes me just go to another store.
