When you eat out with friends, do you split the bill evenly, contribute just what you ate, or take turns paying? Do you use Venmo, PayPal, credit cards, cash or something else? How has this changed since mobile payments became commonplace? Tell us your favorite bill-paying strategies and you'll be entered to win $25 toward your next meal (paid how you want to spend it: Venmo, PayPal, or Amazon gift card!) I used to ask for separate checks when I was hanging out with people who were ordering alcohol, as I never drank much and thought splitting the bill seemed unfair.

Depends on the friend group. With good ones, we just split it evenly. With other groups, if the server can split it, that's the first choice. If not, then we all do the math!!

It depends but usually we get separate checks and pay using credit cards or gift cards. I actually haven't used mobile payment for eating out yet. My favorite bill paying strategy is to just get separate checks. It's a lot easier that way.

unless it has been agreed to otherwise, everyone pays for what they ordered via cash or cc; haven't tried mobile payments--probably won't since it is not as secure as they would like us to believe.

We don't eat out very often, but when we go with others it is always family. Being the parents/grandparents, we usually pay ;) but occasionally our adult kids pay. We use credit cards but try to pay the tip in cash. Often when one family pays the other leaves the tip.

I prefer separate bills, but usually what ends up happening is everyone splitting the bill equally.

We usually split it evenly. I always pay with credit card. I feel like my portion would be less if I only paid my portion since I get water and not a $3 beverage.

I usually go Dutch. None of my friends have Venmo, but my son just got it to pay cover charges at house parties.
