Women Making Their Mark

"Ruth Bader Ginsburg was inspirational to me in so many ways. My Dad was an attorney, so I was always aware of law and the judicial system, generally. Obviously she helped women in multiple ways and I think that her death this past year brought her again to the news and highlighted just how important and influential she has been to women's rights". - kpayne1027

"There are so many but the first one that comes to mind is Michelle Obama. She just seemed to take the whole First Lady thing in stride. She was always so poised and just always made me proud to be an American every time I heard her speak.  Such a wonderful role model." - wendy106

"Barbara Jordan was always an inspiration to me, working on the committee that investigated Richard Nixon. She was so impressive." - SueG907

"Alice Wong is an incredible disability rights advocate who founded the Disibility Visabilty Project, which is dedicated to sharing the stories of people with disabilities. She also fights to see more people with disabilities in leadership positions and politics. The work she does is so incredible and the more I read her work, the more I am impressed. Though her name isn't so well known, it should be." - jerseygirl1

Women the World Should Know

"My mother passed away in the fall of 2009. She inspires me daily... She wanted to go to college in the late 50s to become a doctor. In those days, you couldn’t. The choice was to become a Nurse or get married. She married my father, and became a nurse.  She was a Nurse for over 10 years until the doctor retired. She raised four children and also my sister's kid when my sister got sick.  When my nephew got Leukemia at 2 years old, he went to Sloan Kettering in 1983. My mother, Margaret Joan Outeiral, created the first Parents Room there in 1983…" - Kissmekatedelta88

"My grandmother inspired me. She did what she could in the face of adversity. She forged her own path and showed my cousins she could do things they never thought she could." - klassic

"The person I choose is my best friend Debbie. … Debbie does and has helped so many strangers with so many things, buying groceries, or a quick meal, a kind word or advice on where to go for any needed help…. This woman never stops, her energy and will and desire to help and impact this world to make it a better place is amazing. Debbie is my choice for someone who has inspired me and I'm sure many others. She may not be history now, however, I believe one day many will remember her for all she did to help. She will not make national news, but in her community she will." - allene7

There are so many amazing women, but I think I would say RBG she really paved the way for women to be able to do so many things, like have our own bank accounts. She recognized how to make those powerful moves and while I will probably never accomplish any of the amazing things she did, it was inspiring to see a woman in power do such good for all of us, and not just for other women but for men too. She was also able to be friends with her political rivals showing us that you don't have to just be friends with like minded people, its okay to disagree and you can still respect and care for the other person.

No one inspires me like my three daughters! Each day I am more amazed and proud. My eldest is an artist and runs her own business. She raised two young men with strong work ethics who respect women as their equals. My middle daughter is an actor and applied behavior analyst  who works with children on the autism spectrum. She is also going for another degree while working and raising two bright little boys. And my youngest, a preschool instructor and writer, also is raising and even homeschooling her two children during this pandemic. They have given me six wonderful grandchildren, and they never cease to amaze me each and every day.

My aunt who passed away in October.  She died owning nothing of value in the eyes of the world.  However, she would have given her last dollar to someone in need. A trait of generosity that you don't find too often.

My mom is such an inspiration to me! She's always serving others and doing things for other people.  Her dedication to her family is so inspiring. She's very self disiplined and has been such an incredible testimony to me of a loving wife, woman, and mom.

My Mother In Law is a great woman she has inspired to do many things. Including teaching me many things along life struggles. She has always been there for me and has lead me in a good direction. She has always been the woman I can depend on for anything. I lost my mother 10 years ago so, it is wonderful to have such a great mother in law.

I recently saw an episode on PBS Newshour in honor of Internationl Women's Day.  The one woman who stood out in my mind, by far, was named Mama Fatima from a country in Africa.  She had seen her famly (mother, father, and husband) killed by machetes in front of her, and then she was raped by an Islamist militant group.  She then said that she was now no longer a young girl, no longer a farmer, but she was a warrior.  And she said she would be a warrior until they killer her.  Horrible that such things exist in our world in the year 2021, but to me, she is truly doing the berst she can to survive -and to triumph over what they did to her.
