Can I cut any more? It's hard with two teenage boys and a husband that is really working oh his "I would like to have it now" mentality.

Coupons and sales are the way to go.

With our economy driving up prices at a rapid rate it's getting more challenging with two school aged kids and a 7 month old still at home, and then two grown kids up the road who often need some help. I am a disabled mother of 5 and have a husband that has no concept of money and budgeting. However, now that he's gone back to school to finish his business degree he's getting a clue. I've always been a sale/clearance shopper, but I've added coupons from the newspaper and some online programs you can download and print out for things we need. I also try to make an all-inclusive grocery list to last at least two weeks as I have found the more I have to go to the store the more I spend. I can never go into the grocery store and come out with just what I went in for. It also saves on gas to make fewer trips. I just make do with what we have in the house and have learned how to creatively improvise on recipes when I'm missing a couple ingredients. Making a dinner menu to go with grocery shopping helps keep on track too. You end up with the things you need and have everything you need to go with certain meals (most of the time lol).

I won't buy it if we don't need it. My husband has been off a month from work due to medical problems and my paycheck barely kept up with the bills, gas for the car,and grocery shopping for a family of 6.

Are things going to get better?

I agree that we are spending less in ALL areas, all stores, and basically on everything. Husband is unemployed & unemployment is the highest it's been in our state in 18 yrs!!

We stopped shopping at department stores because things are too expensive there. We still shop at other places, but we don't buy anything we don't need & we always uses coupons whenever possible.

I'm reading all these comments, but they are not what I'm seeing. My mom works at one of the stores people have been mentioning here and we were just talking about this. People are still spending money and buying things that would be considered non essential or frivolous. For some, I suppose it hasn't hit home yet.

I need to figure out how to implement couponing. I've never been good at it, and I'm unsure of how to access coupons (don't see many of them here).
