If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

How many times have you gone into a store and thought, "Why is it like this? It could be so much better!" From the long lines at the wholesale clubs (because only half of the lanes are open!) to rude and inattentive sales people to messy racks at some stores where you can't find your size in the place its meant to be!  Some of our shopping experiences seem ripe for improvement!

If you were given the chance to make a shopping experience better, which type of store would it be and why?

Grocery Store (36.2%)

Department Store (7.6%)

Mass Merchandiser (Wal*Mart, Kmart, Target) (39.1%)

Club Store (Costco, Sam?s, etc.) (4.9%)

Discount Store (TJ Maxx, Filene?s, etc.) (6.5%)

Drug Store (1.6%)

Big Box Retailer (Home Depot, Staples, Toys R Us, etc.) (3.8%)

If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

Although I understand the marketing stratey behind the mass merchandizers such as Walmart, Target, etc., I dislike having to constantly search for items or aiels that have been moved to a different location all the time. I really would like to be able to go in the store, get the items I need to get and checkout in a short span of time. I hate it when I have to "hunt down" items that are not in the same place the last time I shopped at that particular store.

Going grocery shopping is one of the things I hate doing. They never have enough cashiers to help speed the check out. The produce is hardly ever fresh and the aisles are so narrow that you can't have two people with carts to go through them. I just can't stand being there. I glad that I only go once a month and trust I make sure I get enough food till next month.

I would love to change WalMart.....this store drives me crazy! They have great prices, but the customer service is lacking. Sam Walton is probably turning flips in his grave. The way his relatives have run his store in the ground is absolutely rediculous. And the pharmacy dept is another part that needs to be done differently. They close at 8-10pm, not really sure what time. But, they could sure hire another pharmacist and some techs to fill scripts at night. That way they would be ready for those that need them in the morning. But no, they want you to wait in a line for hours and hopefully get them in a few more hours. Oh how I would change that store!!!!!

I'd like to see the grocery stores widen their aisles and not put displays that stick out too far blocking the already small aisles.

I also saw on one of the news shows that they are prototyping a scanner that you pick up at the start of your shopping and scan items as you go along. This would make me happy not having to stand in line, unload the cart onto the conveyor, and then pack the groceries in bags. You could essentially scan and pack as you go.

I wish the grocery stores would have better customer service. It would be nice if the cashier would say "thank you, hope you have a nice day" I just handed her two hundred dollars.

I have noticed that my favorite department is shrinking the variety of CLOTHES being offered, but has increased the variety of COSMETICS. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? I am not interested in trying the latest $300 face cream. But I would like some new clothes that don't look like everything else in my closet! :-)

I live in a small town where Wal-mart is our only option as all privately owned businesses could not compete. Our wal mart prices are higher than neighboring towns because we have no competition. I really do not like to shop there as I have run all over the store to get what I need, then there are only 2 to 3 check outs open. Never a pleasant experience. grannaoffive

The grocery stores are the only ones listed that EVERYONE goes to, and EVERYONE has the same complaints, that they can't find things there and have to find someone to ask. I concluded along ago that women should be allowed to set up the shelving of products. Nobody should have to go to 4 different areas to find tomato products to make chili. Anyone agree with me? I AM WOMAN..

Walmart is just about our only option for shopping for several things we use regularly. I can think of several things I would change about Walmart, starting with the number of available cashiers on duty!

Wal Mart drove its only local comeptitor out of business so unless you drive at least an hour, that is all we got. I absolutley HATE shopping there. The associates get rudder every year and never know wehre things are. Probably because the store is always moving things from one side of the store to another. Of course, that is when you can actually find an associate on the sales floor to ask for help. And why have all those registers if they are never going to be used? I do everything I can to avoid that store, including paying a higher price.
