If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

How many times have you gone into a store and thought, "Why is it like this? It could be so much better!" From the long lines at the wholesale clubs (because only half of the lanes are open!) to rude and inattentive sales people to messy racks at some stores where you can't find your size in the place its meant to be!  Some of our shopping experiences seem ripe for improvement!

If you were given the chance to make a shopping experience better, which type of store would it be and why?

Grocery Store (36.2%)

Department Store (7.6%)

Mass Merchandiser (Wal*Mart, Kmart, Target) (39.1%)

Club Store (Costco, Sam?s, etc.) (4.9%)

Discount Store (TJ Maxx, Filene?s, etc.) (6.5%)

Drug Store (1.6%)

Big Box Retailer (Home Depot, Staples, Toys R Us, etc.) (3.8%)

If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

Wednesday August 13, Home Depot is to open a new store. Our town has a Walmart, Smith's and Albertson's. That is it except for second hand stores.

I totally believe that cleanliness is an important element of shopping to me. I have turned around and walked out of stores because I didn't feel that I could eat and survive from anything purchased there. Another thing I abhore is a store that doesn't have enough check-out clerks and you have to wait eons before getting checked out.

Both Walmart and Tom Thumb by me have a problem with item freshness. I have found packaged meat and cheese both months out of date on the shelves. Produce is way past the eat by date. And TT is especially bad about not stocking their shelves in produce. Over the weekend and Mondays the shelves are just empty. And don't get me started on bagging my items - doughnuts and bananas on the bottom of the bag? cleanliness is almost non existent anymore when shopping. Rudeness abounds. I agree that coupons on my receipts are great but give me more then a few days to use them and make them relevent to what I buy.

Plus size clothing is a joke. Why is it almost always put next to the Maternity clothing?? And the colors and designs are awful.

Walgreens has a great rebate program that they roll out every month, however, finding the products the rebates are for is next to impossible! Sometimes they will put some, but not all, of the "free with rebate" items on an end-cap. Other times, they don't. I end up spending a lot of time going up and down the aisles in a small drugstore looking for the correct size of the item the rebate is on. Once I do find the correct spot, they are usually out of the correct item for the rebate.

I wish all of the stores-grocery, mass discount, upscale dept.stores, etc-were more handicapped accessible. Unless you are in that situation, you have no idea how difficult it is to shop. The over crowded aisles, not enough motorized carts, items too high to reach on the shelves. It would be nice if these stores had someone to help the disabled shoppers, or just have sales clerks available. It is easier, although more expensive, to shop on line for these people. Have a heart!!

Being a coupon user I like the idea of getting coupons with my receipt, but it seems I get alot of them that I feel are a waste of paper. I also have to agree the one of the other writers about bigger sizes. Not everyone is a size 4. Not that I'm cutting them downbut lets be realistic. I like to look in style too. Not like I am way older than I am because I have curves and a big chest.

Grocery Stores have a problem of maintaining out of date merchandise out of the store and the people who work there need to be nicer. Also some areas of stores are used as hangouts by local teens and/or undesirables.

Instead of the incredible amount of food that goes to waste every day in grocery stores...I would love to see the food that is about to be outdated get turned over to the poor and needy families. This could help the homeless shelters as well, and be a tax write off. Millions of dollars worth of food gets thrown out every year, yet we still have hungry families, and homeless here in our own country!
