If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

How many times have you gone into a store and thought, "Why is it like this? It could be so much better!" From the long lines at the wholesale clubs (because only half of the lanes are open!) to rude and inattentive sales people to messy racks at some stores where you can't find your size in the place its meant to be!  Some of our shopping experiences seem ripe for improvement!

If you were given the chance to make a shopping experience better, which type of store would it be and why?

Grocery Store (36.2%)

Department Store (7.6%)

Mass Merchandiser (Wal*Mart, Kmart, Target) (39.1%)

Club Store (Costco, Sam?s, etc.) (4.9%)

Discount Store (TJ Maxx, Filene?s, etc.) (6.5%)

Drug Store (1.6%)

Big Box Retailer (Home Depot, Staples, Toys R Us, etc.) (3.8%)

If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

I have 3 children under the age of 2.5. The more I can get (food, clothes etc), at one stop the better. I'm also a big advocate of organic products for my children, but the selections are so small. I end up driving across town looking for organic formula, and the earth best organic baby food selection varies, I need and want a bigger selection. OH, and I love when there are cleaning wipe for the carts at the front. Nice especially during the winter season with all of the germs going around. I would love a the opportunity to have shopping carts with slots for two children, makes it easier to shop without putting merchandise with the cart with the kids who really want to open the product.

Also, my children love balloons, thanks for the stores that give them away at the front, makes shopping easier, but please get latex free balloons, my daughter is allergic but loves them.

It would also be wonderful if I could call ahead if all I needed was a few items, like a case of diapers, that I could get curb side assistance rather than unload my kids and reload them 10 minutes later.

Yes, clutter and damaged goods on the shelves is a HUGE turn off, but to me CUSTOMER SERVICE is number one on my list. I'm sick of not being able to find anyone who knows how to treat guests/shoppers properly anymore. Service Desk associates are rude, ill-informed, poorly educated, argumentitive and flat out lazy! I get so upset when a teenage customer service associate doesn't even know how to great guests/shoppers, refuses to hear the guest/shoppers' requests and generally behaves as if the guest/shopper is somehow interputing THEIR day!

No, I spent my HARD earned money and I expect to get what I paid for without hassles, without arguments and above all without attitude from the store associates. I work in the service industry as well, but if ANYONE in my company EVER behaved as poorly as some of the associates in Mass Merchadise stores did that associate would be fired before they could blink an eye.

I would like to see more examples of how to furnish a home and alternative ways of using items displayed in the stores. It becomes the same mundane trip to the store and I feel like I need to assist them in assisting me!

I love Marshalls and TJ Maxx, but the music so loud and the aisles are way to narrow. If you get one person in there with a cart, you can't shop the row. I do love Marshall's new shoe section though. I have gotten some really great deals now that they have a larger selection.

I think it is bad business for stores to run a sale then never have the items in stock and not to offer a raincheck. Recently I went to Meijer to buy laundry detergent that was advertised buy 1 get 2 free. I went the morning the ad came out and "surprise" they were sold out. I was told the truck would be there on Wednesday, I went back exactly when I was told to and again "sold out" and told to come back on Saturday. I went again, still no detergent. I asked at the service desk about getting a raincheck and was told that she didn't know how to issue one, but I could come back in a couple of hours to get one when the supervisor would be there. Gas is too expensive to give people such a runaround obvious bait and switch. I won't go there for anything ever again.

I like Walmart because it is literally one stop shopping. The only thing I don't like is that you walk yourself to death. I wish they would put some items in 2 places ,example, charcoal. You can buy it at any grocery store so they should put it in the grocery side always not just in the summer. You have to walk to the other side of the store to get it. I guess they like it that way because on your way to get it you will pass other items that will tempt you to buy them

I wish that the Department Stores either had more Sales Associates working in areas. My experience has been that there is sometimes 1 person covering 2-3 departments. This is very frustrating and it tends to make customers walk out without making a purchase. I know that retail business is down but there should be at least one person located in each department to not only check you out but to answer any questions if need be.

The biggest thing I don't like about department stores is that their clothing is organized by designer, not by type. If you want a pair of black pants, you have to look through the "Collections" of Ralph Lauren, Liz Claiborne, etc.

the 2 big issues I have in department stores are like the previous poster said .... they have everything by designers rather than by ...slacks,shirts,shorts etc.

the second issue is that the isles are so close together , trying to get thru with a baby and a carriage is not an easy task ! and kids just love pulling on the clothes as your trying to get thru ! I can imagine how many stained clothes at the end of the day or how many shirts are laying on the floor .

Wednesday August 13, Home Depot is to open a new store. Our town has a Walmart, Smith's and Albertson's. That is it except for second hand stores.
