If you were given the power to make changes that would improve your shopping experience, what type of retail store would you most want to impact?

How many times have you gone into a store and thought, "Why is it like this? It could be so much better!" From the long lines at the wholesale clubs (because only half of the lanes are open!) to rude and inattentive sales people to messy racks at some stores where you can't find your size in the place its meant to be!  Some of our shopping experiences seem ripe for improvement!

If you were given the chance to make a shopping experience better, which type of store would it be and why?

Grocery Store (36.2%)

    When I enter a Big Box Retailer such as Home Depot, Lowes, and Staples I'm immediately overwhelmed with the "bigness." To make the experience even worse, I can never find an available person to help me find things and then when I do find someone, they don't know anything about the product I'm looking for. This has happened to me mostly at Home Depot and Lowes. I end up going home and buying what I need on-line instead.

    I so agree with rolani in that grocery stores should be less like Wal-Mart and more like the neighborhood store that they used to be. I know of many older people who cannot shop at the bigger stores and I have to wonder where they are shopping? Since older Americans vote more, eat out more, and shop more (they have or at least had more disposable income), stores should cater to them. Stores should also STOP moving stuff around. When you shop with a toddler, the last thing that you want to do is to search for one stinking item!

    I wish department stores would price merchandise at the best price instead of having to remember coupons. I always seem to forget them when shopping.

    I have a really hard time finding clothes that fit. I'm too tall for petite clothing and too short for women's clothing. I also have a hard time finding clothes that fit in the waist. I spend most of time wandering around just trying to find any clothes that fit. It can be very frustrating.

    I think Department stores like TJMaxx, Marshall, Ross Dress for Less etc. should not stuff too many clothes on the rounders that you have a hard time pulling them off. SALE under wear is all over the place in big boxes which is impossible to find your size.

    I wish department stores would price merchandise at the best price instead of having to remember coupons. I always seem to forget them when shopping.

    I agree a kids play area would be awesome at grocery stores. I think it would benefit most.

    Among the many things that drive me nuts at our local Giant food market:

    1. They re-arrange the locations of all the products. While this may not actually be true, it sure seems that way.

    2. They split the same items and place in different aisles. Yesterday, I found nuts in two different sections. When I didn't see peanuts with the other nuts found in the "Nuts" aisle (as indicated on the hanging sign), I asked a clerk if there were nuts located in another aisle - the next aisle over had nuts as well.

    3. Normally, I bag my groceries myself and I always try to remember my cloth bags. But, if I forget, the baggers only put 2-3 items/bag. I've repeatedly asked the manager of the store to get their staff to fill the bags in a "greener" fashion, but they said that "corporate" has told them to put only 2-3 items/bag.

    I feel as the others do about the discount stores love to shop there for the great deals but very disorganized should flow and you shouldn't have to search for something that you want.
