I've been unemployed since been layed off in January. Absolutely no bites in getting re-employed. At 61 years old I knew it was not going to be easy, but this is very depressing and scary. Working for the same company for the past ten years and having great references doesn't seem to impress anyone. Now I'm living off the modest money saved for my retirement and will be in danger of losing my 850 square foot condo that I've owned for 12 years if I don't find work soon. When will the jobs come back?
I was laid off in May 2009 and seeking employment in the Insurance Industry. I have to tell you it's been ruff...for every job interview i go to, theres at least 5-10 other people going for the job as well. But I am keeping positive, my head up and fingers cross....
chrystale411 I agree with you completly. Diseases are coming back that we had eradicated due to the influx of illegals and some foreigners. As far as the swine flu it came straight out of Mexico and that speaks volumns.
We went from two "ok" salaries to one -- then to ~75% of one. It's not changed in a year and although we've learned to live on what we have, it still is on my mind. There's no room for extras and I worry about emergencies that we might not be ready for. Being the breadwinner for the family is also a change. I love my job and things are turning around for the business so I'm hoping to be back to 100% soon -- hopefully before the holidays!
I think they are making too much of a big deal of this swine flu. Way More people die of the flu that we all get the regular shot/spray for . Do the research - Google - "annual flu death rate". http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124217724145913411.html I got my regular flu shot - but will not get the swine flu one and neither will my children. Someone is out to make a buck and it's not the doctors - they don't get reimbursed the amount they pay for the vaccines. It's cheaper to go to the local health department - Locally I paid $3 per kid - didn't matter if they got 1 or 5 shots that was my total cost. - If kids are covered by state or federal aid - their shots will be paid for. There are lots of other virus to be afraid of - and no one is broadcasting the death rates of Meningitis or MRSA!!! I am lucky that the local health department had the meningitis shots for my kids and one was going to college this fall.
After years of getting my credit back on track and being restored, I was on my way. Then an on the job injury happen, and I had to be off work without pay. That threw the bills off and the house hold budget went out the window. The jobs situation is scary. All it takes is one illness to destroy your financial situation and savings account.
I constantly think about our financial situation. I am pregnant so I am constantly trying to save money for when she gets here, it's slightly stressful!
My 29 year old daughter is expecting the end of November, I worry for her safety with the swine flu, she is afraid to get the swine flu shot.. Who knows how safe it is.
Being a working mother, I think about my children and what they are doing before and after school.
I'm just trying to make it. I am very lucky to have a job, but my personal situation has changed and the income has been cut in half...soooo I'm just trying to survive.
