Has the economic downturn had any impact on your weight?

Candy and snack sales are up over the last several months.  We started to wonder if this increase in sales is hitting our waist lines?!  Since the recession began, have you noticed a difference in your eating habits and weight?

Some of us tend to eat more when we’re stressed while others do the opposite and eat less!  Have you noticed a difference in your weight?  We want to know!

I've gained more than 10lbs...I'm going to need a new wardrobe! (18.0%)

I've gained 5-10lbs...I snack a lot for comfort when I'm stressed (26.5%)

I've gained less than 5lbs...just a few comfort-food pounds that I hope to take off soon (10.4%)

I've lost weight...I can't eat when I'm stressed (12.5%)

Nope, no change (32.5%)

Has the economic downturn had any impact on your weight?

I used to eat very healthy whole and organic foods. Now, the only foods I can afford (and I can't really afford those) is off-brand boxed, canned or frozen foods. So, I'm not even gaining weight from 'comfort foods', but rather from unhealthy processed foods. I live in an area where produce is not grown around here and has to be shipped in, so it is very expensive to buy fresh foods.

My family use to eat out all the time at least one night a week. Since the recession started we can no longer afford to do that. I must say I am glad for that change. While it is nice to eat out now and then when we went to eat at an event hosted by a family member it was a huge treat for us! Not only that but I am grocery shopping with coupons and finding myself making all sorts of healthy meals for my family and have lost weight in the process. Even if the economy goes up this change is something my family plans to stick with.

I agree with everyone also about the cost of food. I have to plan my meals a week at a time so that I can at least get my monies worth at the store. I have been out of work since december and it does seem as though i eat all day long boy what a revelation. My husband is a karate instructor so i usually work out at the dojo on the weekends sometimes but I am going to have to do better with that if I want to continue to stay at the same weight that I am at.

I have only lost about 7 lbs. but I think it's due less to stress and more to the fact that I have cut out unnecessary spending on junk food. I have also had to let my cable subscription go so I actually getting out and doing more activities. I also took on a second job and have decided to return to school to try and better my career choices to avoid this in the future. Stress? Who me? LOL all of this is taking place with me as a single mom of a 16 year old and a three year old--BOTH girls! I just try to stay ultra-busy which helps to alleviate a lot of stress as well.

I have gained so much weight! I am a stress eater. I also have three boys and continually snack right long with them. I have made the decision that this has to change- Which stresses me!

I have found it more difficult to work out as I am working longer hours due to staff vacanies. I really hope this doesn't translate into more pounds. I am going to have to do something to move durning the lunch hour.

I have cut out on other things in life in order to be able to afford fresh produce and other healthier options since of course, unfortunately healthier options are more expensive. Plus being stressed often, working out seems to be the only thing that takes the stress away! Though I haven't lost any weight I definately gained muscle and my body fat percentage went down by at least 4%!!!!
