Considering the downturn in the economy, are you more likely to buy store brands (such as generic or private label brands)?

We all have our favorite brands.  The ones that no matter what the coupon discount is off that comparable "other" brand, we will still by our favorite.  With the current economic environment, are you more likely to switch from national brands to purchase less expensive store or private label brands?

Do you think the quality is comparable?

No, I will stick with the name brands that I know and trust (0.0%)

Yes, I will purchase more store brands to save money (0.0%)

The same - I won't change my brand preferences because of the economy (0.0%)

I will buy the store brand ONLY if the brand name isn't on sale for less. I've found the store brands to be just as good as the name brands! I also plan my weekly menu based on what's on sale that week at the store.

Some items I have switched to "store brand", but there are some items that I won't compromise on. My kids can truly tell the difference - even when I "hide the evidence". In those cases it's better to buy the real thing than throw away the generic. I've been lucky with Cereal, they'll eat the bags. Veggies (canned & frozen) have made the switch too. Hot Dogs, Mac & Cheese, the occassional Hamburger Helper have to be Name Brand. Another successful switch has been with milk. I buy powdered and mix it 1/2 & 1/2 with the milk. I get 2 gallons of milk that way.

I have almost always bought store brand, because I haven't been able to notice a difference. There are a few products that I do buy name brand... but for the most part I try to save money!

Sometimes the store brand is cheaper than the national brands especially when you don't have any coupons.

I almost always buy JUST sale items whenever possible. I shop for those things and buy enough for a few months. But when it comes to something fresh like bread I buy brand names. I'm not impressed with most store brands I try. I do use some though. Kroger seems to have a better store brand than most.

i price both items; calculate. witch product is cheaper and if it's worth the price difference. comparing; price, taste, and quaintly. i choose to buy many items at Sam's clubs but only products that are cheaper in bluk. however; i do have to plan for this knowing the bill will cost more. most of the items will last for 6 months to a year! never leave home with out a calculator.

I find myself clipping coupons now more than ever, and also checking the paper before going to the store to find the best deals. From there, I make my menu based upon the "best buys" for the week. I'll be so glad when the economy is close to being back on its feet.
