Recently, the pain relief medication, Motrin, ran an online ad on the company’s website. It was about “baby wearing” — i.e. carrying a child in a sling or a wrap, rather than pushing them in a stroller or carrying them in your arms.
Moms did not respond well to the ad. They were offended that Motrin suggested that they carry their babies as a "fashion accessory" and that it was not necessarily good to carry their babies around. Clearly the point of the ad was to show that carrying your baby might cause back pain and that Motrin should be your solution.
Motrin responded by pulling the ads. We were curious how many people actually were aware of this? Were you aware? What was your take on this?
Yes (9.8%)
No (90.2%)
I'm not totally offended by the ad, but I think there are much better examples for Motrin to use. They were obviously trying to relate to the mom target audience, but missed the target.
i didnt see the ad. but was it really that serious. some people get way worked up over the smallest stuff. there is always going to be something or someone who is going to offend you. GET OVER IT
Look at how many of us even knew about it, companies are hypersesnitive and a few effect the mass that is why you need to let your opinion be known
More than "a few" moms were upset by the ads. While I wasn't personally offended, those who didn't see the ad shouldn't judge those who were offended by its content.
I didn't see nor did I hear anything about it until now. Sounds as if it were blown way out of the water to me!! Always gotta be someone in the crowd though...lol I Carried both my girls in a "Kangaroo" so I called it and my daughter is goinig to do the same with her lil girl. So what's the big deal?!?
It'd be easy to say people overreacted to the commercial, but not having seen the commercial myself I can't say. It certainly sounds like that could be the case though. I feel like there's always going to be someone out there that has something negative to say about almost anything. If there were enough people that responded so negatively about it then it seems like it was in the best interest of Motrin to pull the ads. Mad people won't buy your products!
I agree that pulling the ad was over-reacting. There are a LOT of commercials out there that talk down to people, why get upset about one in particular?
Although i did not know of this ad i think moms and women or men every where are over reacting. I do not think they were trying to pass it off as "wearing your child as an accessory" because moms do use those & they do cause back pain, i think moms need to let it go.
I had no idea about this, but it is not surprising with so many other things going on.
holley moley i live by motrin, what the heck! That's just crazey stuff.
