As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations.  Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what.  Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year.  So, have you given it any thought?

More than I did last year (9.6%)

The same as I did last year (30.4%)

Less than I did last year (52.5%)

I'm not sure (7.6%)

As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

Things are just getting too expensive. I wish I could afford to be more generous but I really have to cut back drastically this year.

With the higher gas and winter fuel prices, my son's orthodontics and the like, I'll be making more preserves and the like for presents.

As the economy is declining, it is necessary to cut back. Also, my hubby and I are saving for our first house, which we will hopefully be able to buy next summer.

With utility costs, food, fuel, almost everything being so expensive for all, why not spread good cheer with gifts of warmth? Try learning to knit/crochet hats, or supplement someone's houshold income by purchasing handmade afghans, hats, or other gifts to ward off chills and allow us all to "wather" lower thermostats. Try making up batches of spiced hot chocolate mix in jars, or tea mixes for a warm evening treat? Now is the time to not only create, but BE CREATIVE!

I hope to spend less this year, but with a new baby making the count of kids 5 now, I don't see how I can spend less. Ages 16(girl), 13(boy), 9(girl), 4(boy), 6 months(boy). Please are there any hints how to get more with less dollars.

I've been shopping early so that I won't feel the pinch as December hits.

Due to the cost increase of just everyday living, I am planning on spending less this year than last year. I am planning on buying everyone one really THOUGHTFUL gift this year. I think not only will this help me save money but hopefully it will bring back the true spirit of Christmas.

Sadly it'll be less. I now have two kids and so we are spending $200 on each of them. Not to mention the baby will be a yr old beginning of Nov. and my older son will turn 4 beginning of Jan. so we get hit hard around the holidays.
