As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations.  Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what.  Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year.  So, have you given it any thought?

More than I did last year (9.6%)

The same as I did last year (30.4%)

Less than I did last year (52.5%)

I'm not sure (7.6%)

As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

My Gradchildren vary in ages so for the 2 young girls I get gifts. The 2 boys are 12 and 13 so I am getting them more Gift certificates to their favorit places than actual gifts.I always say i am cutting down but I never seem to manage!

I have a granddaughter who will be almost 2 this Christmas. Last year she had no clue about gifts but she is becoming more aware so we will probably convert money that was spent on others to getting goodies for her!

I have 4 children and 2 step children. Their ages range from 4 to 14. The 3 teenagers are harder to buy for on a budget than the little ones because they want more expensive stuff. I always plan to spend much less than what I actually end up spending. I am looking for everyway I can to stop the never ending battle of being broke for months after christmas.

We have a daughter who is 2 and another one on the way. We also live in a different state than my in-laws. We are already letting our extended family know that their present is us coming to see them for the holidays! And we definitely don't want any presents unless they include the words diapers or wipes!

I stopped years ago going overboard for the holidays. I try to keep it family orientated and spend time at home. My family is comfortable with what they have and I do get a few things they want. We always give to Angel Trees, Toys for Tots or just buy someone something they may need (replace broken or worn out items).

Everything is getting too commercial while some people are going broke trying to keep up. For what? I rather be happy then broke and stressed out.

VERY Poor college student! Especially now. I owe so much on college loans that I think everyone will just be getting a hug for Christmas.

We spent quite a bit last year, but it had been a rough year for our family and it was a way to thank all the kids (even if Santa got the credit) for pulling through like champs. We will spend less this year, but it will be even. I don't believe in buying more or less depending on age. We spend the same amount on each child and they know they can only ask for so much. I NEVER give more to one child than to another just because the older ones have more or want more. They know that there is one big gift and several little ones and it always has been!

Last year we were having some financial problems so I was unable to give my kids much at christmas. This year I will be making up for it.

Not sure was my answer! I am so unsure as to what to do this year our family has grown and income sucks! I have a large family of brothers and sisters from ages 24-5, 6 in all if you coun't me! 3 are biological, the youngest adopted and then one other who currently is living with my family. Oh yeah then I have 2 new ones as well cause by boyfriend I have been with for a while also has 2 kids. There is a grand total of 7 kids t shop for and with financials the way they are it is going to be nice trying to do something nice for them all.
