Did you know that every 35 minutes a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States?

March 10 is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS awareness Day.  It is a day to recognize the special risks HIV/AIDS poses for women and girls, and to raise awareness of the disease's increasing impact on them.  If you are a parent, have you spoken to your children about HIV?  Please share your stories.  We want to know.

    Hiv is a real life long threat for women at any age if sexually active. The fifty plus set has to be reminded. Safe sex or no sex.

    Are we sure that number is correct? If it is, it is a sad reflection on our society in that we should be in a much better situation to control this disease by now. Some of the previous comments refer to sex education as the preventative measure. I just want to remind readers that HIV is also spread through blood exchange including transfusions. Does anyone know how many new cases, if any, are caught via this method?

    I got mine and its important to know!! Im healthy so yay me!! you should get it because you think you dont have it and maybe you do. thats how its spaded even more because didnt know you had it.

    I didn't know that, but I did know that one of the fastest growing populations of women with aids were in the 45-60 age group. Many of these women are returning to the dating scene after the death of their spouses or long term partners. Many of them did not know how much things have changed from the 80's or later and often are ignorant of contraception, protection and all of the stuff that's out there today. It's sad to see how they are impacted by this and life as they knew it has changed. Not only should we talk and educate our kids, but take measures to reach older ladies too!
