I like to give gifts from my own community--a scarf that I crocheted, a framed photograph by a professional photographer friend, or a necklace made by a local jeweler.

I'm leaning towards something like a food basket for my parents and in-laws. Anything else we get for them always seems to be "wrong". As for my kids, I plan to get them more clothes they can wear to school. I guess you can say I am going the practical route this year!

I'm going to do the homemade thing this year and give everyone tins or boxes of my homemade cookies, brownies, muffins, etc. I may even throw in some homemade chocolates or bark candy and some homemade hot chocolate or coffee mixes as well. The mixes are SO easy to do and turn out just as good as the expensive store bought ones. And everyone is happy to get treats that they can freeze (the baked goods) and take out as they want them- gives them yummies for months! And I will also be regifting a few things. They are brand new- never used and we won't ever use them. No sense in them just sitting in my closets!

My family seems to love getting gifts that are made by or centered around my two boys (i.e. pictures in frames, ceramic hand prints, etc). With the economy, Holiday gifts should be token gifts, just to let the people know you are thinking of them---I don't think it should have to be anything extravagant.

I buy clothes for my brother's kids, I make some of my gifts (pillow cases, table runners, wall hangings, etc.) for most people, and for my girlfriends, I like getting candles/makeup/beauty/bath stuff. Also depends on what I find throughout the year. I tend to buy stuff for their birthday and new year's. I don't celebrate christmas so I try to find "appreciation" gifts.
