Has the economic downturn had any impact on your weight?

Candy and snack sales are up over the last several months.  We started to wonder if this increase in sales is hitting our waist lines?!  Since the recession began, have you noticed a difference in your eating habits and weight?

Some of us tend to eat more when we’re stressed while others do the opposite and eat less!  Have you noticed a difference in your weight?  We want to know!

I've gained more than 10lbs...I'm going to need a new wardrobe! (18.0%)

I've gained 5-10lbs...I snack a lot for comfort when I'm stressed (26.5%)

I've gained less than 5lbs...just a few comfort-food pounds that I hope to take off soon (10.4%)

I've lost weight...I can't eat when I'm stressed (12.5%)

Nope, no change (32.5%)

My problem is junk food is generally cheaper than nutritious food, you can even use coupons for junk food. When is the last time you saw a sale on carrots, or a coupon for broccoli?!!

I have lost weight, I have been dieting and exercising on my treadmill and have cut out buying lots of junk food due to the cost of everything. It also helps walking off the stress.

When I'm depressed, I'm inactive and lay around gaining weight.

I think I gained a lot of weight by eating comfort foods like cakes and cookies. I have gained about 20 pounds and sometimes it can get depressing. I am going to walk a couple of miles a day when the weather gets warmer. I don't just blame the economy for my weight gain, it is also the medication that I'm taking. That just means that I must take control of my weight gain before it takes control of me. Prayer has helped me regain focus on what I need to do as far as getting me back into shape and eating a more healthier diet. Farmers markets have healthy foods cheaper than the local grocery stores. The dollar stores also have some healthy foods. We just need to do our homework and remember the choices we make today will have an impact on our tomorrow.

It's sad to say, but healthier foods tend to be a lot more expensive than the not so healthy ones. While I don't pig out on junk food or anything, I have noticed that I have been buying cheaper foods (pasta, bread, sale items, etc.) in order to save money right now. My waist has definitely noticed it! :(

We aren't going out to eat as much anymore, so we are cooking at home more...which helps with portions and healthier foods!! I'm snacking more but trying to snack on healthier (& cheaper) stuff. I don't keep the expensive snacks in the house anymore.
