We all have our favorite brands. The ones that no matter what the coupon discount is off that comparable "other" brand, we will still by our favorite. With the current economic environment, are you more likely to switch from national brands to purchase less expensive store or private label brands?
Do you think the quality is comparable?
No, I will stick with the name brands that I know and trust (0.0%)
Yes, I will purchase more store brands to save money (0.0%)
The same - I won't change my brand preferences because of the economy (0.0%)
Honestly I don't care what brand I get for most things (except deodorant I only use Dove) so I get whatever is cheapest. I get toiletries and stuff like that free or super cheap by playing the drugstore (or grocery) game. But for things that I can not do this, I'll buy whatever is cheapest.
I usually don't have a ton of time to clip coupons so generic brand products being cheaper definately help keep my grocery bill low.
I shop at Kroger and I have found that many of thier store brands are just as expensive if not more expensive than the origional. I use coupons and so i do tend to buy brand. I have found a great site that you use your Kroger card and the coupons are linked to the card itself. It is shortcuts.com. It has saved my family alot
I shop based on unit pricing, so sometimes generic is cheaper, and sometimes brand name is cheaper (esp. if I have a coupon). I have gotten much better about a grocery budget and will do whatever it takes to stay with in it. I am NOT brand partial.
I agree with altland that with companies offering coupons, sometimes it's more expensive to buy the store brand. Sometimes, even if it costs more, there are some brands that aren't the same as their generic counterpart. It's not worth it to spend money on a product that isn't any good.
I prefer to buy the brands I trust no matter what but if the brand is more expensive than the generic even after a coupon, I may have to purchase the generic. A lot of them are really okay.
I buy more store brands now than ever before, but there are some brand names that I won't give up. I watch for coupons and special sales.
I have always bought some store brand stuff. But there are some thing you just cant go cheap on.
plantlady says I buy both store brands and national brands. I'm a big coupon user so that really helps out. Recently I used the $1.00 off one Kelloggs Special K cereal plus it was on sale so it made for some really cheap cereal. With the economy being so bad we really need to watch the sales and coupons. I also stock pile when things are on sale.
I tend to buy store brands most of the time. I read the other comments, and I'm impressed that other women can get brand name items as cheap as store brands with coupons - Even with coupons, store brands usually seem cheaper to me, especially with certain items like diapers. I used to work in a factory, and I saw how the exact same product was being packaged in name brand packages AND store brand! - so I know the quality of store brand and name brand items is often identical. I guess choosing name brand vs. store brand is often going to come down to the type of product it is.
