If you have children and they have an allowance, how much do you give them per month?

Teaching kids the value of money and how to manage it is one of the most important life skills that they’ll need. If you give your children an allowance, how much do you give per month? Do you and your family put other restrictions or rules around that money and how it is used?

Less than $25 (39.5%)

$25-$50 (15.5%)

$50-$100 (4.5%)

$100-$150 (0.9%)

More than $150 (0.7%)

I don't give my kids allowance (39.1%)

It comes down to if they want something, then I make them earn it.

i think the survey question is too general. I would say it would depend on how old the child is first of all. if they are young in Elementry school then they will not get allowance, if they are in JHS i would give them $5 a week to spend, then in HS i would probably up that slightly. I want to teach my kids the value of money and that it doesn't grow on trees. i want them to also work for it. when i was little, my mom would give me $.25 every single time i get 100 on my tests. i had to earn it. $.25 was a lot back then LOL to me.

We believe an allowance should be chore based. You do your chores, you get a little money BUT some chores are just done because you are supposed not for money . . .

I think that it is a very important to have your child understand the value of money by teaching them to be responsible with their spending and to help them manage money by allowing them an allowance until they're able to achieve an income of their own.

My one boy has reached the age and maturity to willingly ,without being ask tend to the yard care and many other things that need to be done. He is responsible and now that we signed up for the American Express Pass card offer I have a way to reward him, without the "allowance" term even coming into play. I never gave an allowance, but would buy something they really wanted at times. They had chores such as tending to the pets etc and that is just a part of life. I never thought they needed to be paid for doing what has to be done on a daily basis. That was just learning to be resposible.

My children get $5 a week for doing their chores each day. This makes them more responsible and it's getting them ready for the big world. Their money is reduced if they dont do their chore for the day and we make them save their chore money to get the things they want (like toys).

I have 2 girls and I do not give them a weekly allowance. Every now and then they may get a few bucks for helping. It depends on what it is. However they do earn stars when they do well and then earn a prize from the prize box. It seems to work most of the times.

My daughter gets allowance based on the chores she accomplishes. She gets more if she initiates the action than if I have to ask her to do it. I am trying to teach her the value of money - we all work for what we have.
