Do you think universal health care will improve the quality of health care in the US?

Universal health care is the subject of furious debate in the Federal Governement, the media, and across the country.  Supporters of universal health care believe that it will improve the the livelihoods of individuals and control costs, while detractors believe that it will limit choice and be a financial burden.

Do you believe that it will improve your own health and that of your family?  Please tell us what you think.  We want to know!

If our own congress people will not be on the same system as the balance of the population, why would I want to be a questionable system? My concern is the number of endeavors that the government is involved in that do not work. Government can't seem to be an operator of a business. If the U. S. government could show that it could also be a good steward of programs, then I would feel more comfortable.

Universal health care will not work in the U.S. Canadians come here for treatment because they can get treated faster. Where will Americans go to be treated faster? WHO is going to pay for this program? WHO is going to determine whether you are treated or not? Do YOU really want our inefficient government deciding whether or not you are treated for an illness, telling you what doctor to see, and giving you "end of life" counseling when you're 70? Sorry, but any health program proposed by the Democrats sounds like a nightmare to me.

As a national leader, it is a disgrace to have so many citizens with no health care coverage. With a large aging generation, we must adopt some type of a health care coverage program or we will go bankrupt.

I don't think enough time has gone into the planning of this health care system. It needs to be researched and perhaps tried on a smaller scale such as in one state.

I've seen how Canada and Europe have been affected by national health care plans and I believe we should be able to do a lot better than they have managed so far! There has been too much "rush-rush" with this current health care proposed planning - we need to slow down, stay calm, and appoint some really intelligent, well-informed medical and financial people to come up with some alternative plans. What is currently proposed will be paid for by our children and their children; and on and on - if we don't insist on doing it properly.

QueenKatie...you are soooo wrong about the town halls. My friends and I attended one and we are all very liberal very strong democrats. We are completely against the health care plan and were very vocal against it. Please don't believe the media reports that only "rich republicans" find this plan to be a slippery slope to socialism in America. If our current health care is so poor, why does so many people come from other countries to ours for care? My mom was very ill for two years recently with cancer. She only had Medicare and Medicaid (both available to all who need it) and received the best care that we could ever hope to receive. All of the medical profession we came into contact with treated her no differently than if she had private insurance. I encourage everyone to contact their representatives and ask that this process be slowed way down so that we as INFORMED Amercians can take the time necessary to understand and approve of any changes in our health care system.

I need insurance and I need it now. I've looked at all sorts of plans but they won't cover my pre-exsisting condition. I've tried them all. Some claim they will cover me but I have to wait 3 years and the deductible is over $5000 a year. With the plan as it is in congress-there will be alot of us out in the cold still. And what's this talk about being forced to take the insurance they tell you to or you will be fined? I'm not just going to take any plan. I want one that is going to cover my medical problems NOW.

I know that something must be done about the high costs of health care-but I do not believe we can afford to insure everyone for everything=I believe that there needs to be a compromise between both houses of the government-in conjunction with the voice of the people-to come to a common ground that not only will benefit all but also not burden future generations with a bill that can never be paid.

I hope that it would work but Im not sure how commited the government would be in making it work.
