I wish I could say that exercise is my first turn-to when stress hits. But it is the food and family that gets me through.

Gotta agree with Alienwoman. You can tell how stressed I am by how clean the house is. If you come over and it's spotless, it's been a bad day. If is "lived in", it's been a pretty good day. I also retreat to my kitchen when I am feeling overwhelmed / stressed. I cook / bake like a fiend. There is nothing better for stress / aggravation than pounding the you-know-what out of some fresh dough. So, if you come to the house and it's spotless and there is a huge meal waiting for ya, there's probably no wine left and there are bare patches where I used to have hair.....

I love to eat, and I love to cook. So I tend to try a lot of new recipes when I get stressed. My kitchen looks like it exploded, and I didn't catch up on that deadline, but I have a triple-layer chocolate cake with rasberry ganache for dessert. And really, how can that not make you happy!!

I have found that when I'm stressed I have a tendency to want to over indulge in comfort foods. I try to remain aware of this. I have found that the best remedy is to talk with friends and family as they are supportive and they are always looking out for my best interests. Spiritual meditation is also very comforting.

A hot bath is always nice too! Throw in some candles and a romance novel and a quiet house and the stress melts away.
