Considering the downturn in the economy, are you more likely to buy store brands (such as generic or private label brands)?

We all have our favorite brands.  The ones that no matter what the coupon discount is off that comparable "other" brand, we will still by our favorite.  With the current economic environment, are you more likely to switch from national brands to purchase less expensive store or private label brands?

Do you think the quality is comparable?

No, I will stick with the name brands that I know and trust (0.0%)

Yes, I will purchase more store brands to save money (0.0%)

The same - I won't change my brand preferences because of the economy (0.0%)

Considering the downturn in the economy, are you more likely to buy store brands (such as generic or private label brands)?

I try to shop when the name brand items are on sale and also will use a coupon at the same time, more times then not the name brand item will be the same or less expensive then the store brand.

Every little bit helps. I save big buying store brands, using coupons, and buying toiletries at target.

Whenever name brand items go on sale i buy a few and it usually last until it goes on sale again. Nothing wrong with store brand on most things though.

Years ago I found that for me it was always cheaper to buy generic items. Recently, I grow my own food, and do without some items and do just fine. I noticed because of my location the stores don't compete like they do in larger cities and our choices of using coupons is limited.

There are a lot of things that I will only buy name brand because they just honestly do taste better or have better quality. Other items I definitely buy store brand. I have really started to pay attention to store vs. brand names and I actually have found that many times the brand name is cheper than the store brand before coupons. I just bought sugar last week and the store brand was 2.89 while the brand name was 2.59.

store brands are not always the best quality and no coupons. Coupons matched with sales is only the start. Look for rebates and reward programs. If a product you use on a regular schedule is on sale and sold out , get a rain check. The item might not fit my budget this week but the rain check extends the sale,

We do most of our shopping at a small military commissary that doesn't carry many cheap brands. We've tried pretty much all of the cheaper brands they do carry, and like some of them, but not all that many. There are a few things that we buy generic off base to get a better price, but not many. Most of the name brands are cheaper at the commissary, even without sales and coupons, than the generics are at the local grocery stores.

I have recently learned how to REALLY save money with coupons.........you sometimes hear crazy stories about how people go to the store with coupons and leave only paying a few dollars for several bags of groceries and now I have learned how to do it. Check it out. It does take ALOT of planning and organizing but the pay off is HUGE!! www.jillcataldo.com she teaches classes on "super couponing" so if you live in the Chicago area you HAVE to take her class. Good luck!

I buy the products I like when they are on sale or when I have a coupon for the product. I like it even more when the product is on sale and a have a good coupon for the product. This is what I look for every week. If the coupons were in the paper that day I selected to buy that product and it is also on sale, I sometimes go buy a few more newspapers....if it is not a waste of money. To me this is an easy way to stock up for the winter. Then I have more money to spend for Thanksgiving meals and Christmas dinners. Every holiday I have about 20 guests or more so it is wise to stock up and get the groceries I perferr when they are on sale. Get togethers always costs over $400 or more. In the spring and summer there are other events and I do the same. Stock up on items for the get togethers when they are on sale then I can get the fresh items that week.
