Recently, the pain relief medication, Motrin, ran an online ad on the company’s website. It was about “baby wearing” — i.e. carrying a child in a sling or a wrap, rather than pushing them in a stroller or carrying them in your arms.
Moms did not respond well to the ad. They were offended that Motrin suggested that they carry their babies as a "fashion accessory" and that it was not necessarily good to carry their babies around. Clearly the point of the ad was to show that carrying your baby might cause back pain and that Motrin should be your solution.
Motrin responded by pulling the ads. We were curious how many people actually were aware of this? Were you aware? What was your take on this?
Yes (9.8%)
No (90.2%)
well, I have worn my baby, toted my baby and just let my baby scream. ALL gave me a headache. and usually a backache, and I am NOT offeded by any of it. We are a VERY whiny society. See the humor in something. I am not offended cause that idiot on TV has a dramatic fit when they cant make a ziplock work so they buy the newest widget that Billy Mays is touting. Motrin shoudl have done a commercial of a hunter pulling and tugging and dragging a dead deer, and how THAT will make your back hurt. THE hunters would all agree and go out and buy the stuff. Everyone else could whine. I am not offended that all companies seem to think only old people have artheritis.
I have always thought that contraptions like slings and leashes for children are offensive to the women that use them- for obvious reasons - but if that is how they see fit to raise their kids, ie wraparounds, backpacks, and other constricitng bands...As for pulling the tv ad that portrays real life, that seems like hindsight is twenty twenty!
That is crazy....I remember when my kids were babies and I would use a sling while I vacuumed the house. Wow I wouldn't think twice about it. I think that there are much more controversial ads out there that are very offensive , and that would not be one of them.
this is the ad...I think people are just nuts lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmykFKjNpdY
I was not aware of this. My husband normally keeps up on this sort of thing. He sis not know anything about it either.
That is interesting, I had not noticed the ad or that there was such a sensitivity to that aspect of the ad. I agree with the other respondant, I need motrin because I have kids..not becuase i carry them around anymore. LOL I should be more aware of the messages ad put out these days.
oh man, people are far too P.C. these days. I am only 26 but people need to get over themself's and stop thinking gee that offends me so everyone else should stop doing it. grr
I baby wear my son, or I used to he mainly walks by himself now. But damn that is way over reacting. I would have rejoiced to see an ad like that because you don't see that too often. It's mainly portrayed as strollers and all that. I'm going to write to motrin now and commend them on the ad.
I didn't see the ads and was shocked that ppl woudl be so offended by a suggestion.
Good God, overreacting is right. I think its a another case of people having to much time on their hands and being a career complainer.
