Do you consider yourself a tightwad or spendthrift?

We recently read that there are more miserly people out there than spenders.  So, we were curious how this might look for women?  Are we women spenders, as we have the reputation to be or are we careful and cautious with our money?

Tell us?  Are you a spender or "super saver"?

Tightwad|I hold on to my money as tightly as possible (39.8%)

Spendthrift|I love to spend! (60.2%)

I was raised to be thrifty; it's in my blood!

It is wise to be spendthrift especially nowadays. The dollar doesn't stretch as far as it use to and we have to be careful with it. Prices are going up all the time but wages arn't so we have to be selective in our choices.

I love to shop so in a way I'm a spendthrift. But I love saving money... coupons mixed with sales, clearance, secondhand, etc. So I don't spend a lot but I do get a lot.

From what i understand, a lot of the "everyday" millionaires contribute their success to being savvy with their money--many drive average priced cars and still use coupons!

I'm a saver for sure. But, I think there is a big difference between being a saver and cheap. I hate when people are "cheap". It indicates a lack of generosity of spirit. I knew someone who use to ask for as little as $.23 back if she laid out money for a friend! That to me is CHEAP! How much are you really going to save by asking your friend for $.23 back? C'mon now!

I think I'm right in the middle. I love to go out and shop, but I hardly ever buy anything unless it's on sale or I get a freebie with it.

There's a middle ground that this survey isn't representing, and I fall there. I do love to spend and have nice things, but I also know the value of a dollar and know how to save. We live on one military member's income, so we are not wealthy by any means. Bu we have no credit card debt and very little other debt--just our mortgage and two cars. We save for our retirement and our childrens' educations, put some into our savings account, always pay our bills, and have some left for discretionary purchases. I think you can have it both ways if you're smart.
