I've been buy store brand cheese lately and I don't notice a difference from the brand name options.
I notice lots of differences between store and namebrands. Mostly I notice that store brands cost me more. I am a coupon shopper.
I mostly bought store brands in the first place, but now, because of the economy, I've had to switch those few name brand things I usually buy to store brands. Now it's coupon coupons coupons.
I usually try store brands to see how they compare to my usual brand and will stick with the store brand if it's of at least equal quality. I buy a lot of store brands because our local grocery store is a real pain about coupons. They have all sorts of weird rules, and it's getting worse. I've noticed the coupons have changed too... it seems like manufacturers want you to buy higher quantities of a product to get the same 75 cents off.
I find that Target and Walmart store brands are usually equal to or sometimes better than store brands.
I am a coupon shopper and most of the time with coupons and bargins I do much better then if I were to get the store brand products.
I do like store brands when I don't have coupons handy with me or when store brands are on sale significantly compared to major brands. However, most of the times I buy national brands because I use coupons on them and end up paying less than I would with store brands.
I used to always buy the plain Fiber One in Fiber One brand....then switched to buying the store brand "Fiber Select" and it tastes SO much better than the real Fiber One...enough that I bought a box of Fiber One to compare, and it just sits in the pantry because it doesn't taste good enough!
I have noticed that some of the store brands cost less but some cost more - especially if there is a sale. So I always check both products for size and price.
