Dining out in restaurants is one of the first luxuries to take a back seat in tough economic times. A year ago you might have splurged on a pricey Italian meal, but today that indulgence might be replaced by a homemade lasagna--with gourmet cheese. Where are you saving money on food? What are you splurging on? Have your eating habits changed with the economy?
Yes, I'm still saving money even though I'm buying premium brands for home cooked meals. (15.8%)
No, I am eating out less and also trying to save on groceries. (61.1%)
My dining out habits remain unchanged. (23.1%)
we usually eat alot of fast food, so our habits are unchanged
We're eating out a lot less.
We eat out less often but try new recipes at home. This way we have leftovers for another meal or to share with family. I also use a lot of cents off coupons at the grocery store. I follow blogs that alert readers to good and great deals at grocery stores and pharmacies then plan meals around the items. THere are some great coupons to be used with sale itemsand BOGO and double coupons at selected grocery stores, which really help with the food budget. Since I only work part time now we have to cut expenses.
Sometimes I'll splurge on shrimp for instance, instead of serving chicken or ground beef. It's not a major expense, but it provides something different on the menu, and the family appreciates that.
I'm trying to brown bag my lunches! That has been my biggest challenge since it is so easy to grab fast food over the noon hour with co-workers.
I've recently had to change to gluten free eating, so dining out is strategic for now. Go out with people I'm dating, no longer go for any fast food, as my choices are still limited.
We still eat out, but we eat a lot of fast food, try to use coupons, and go out when kids eat free.
We've actually been eating out more often - but have been saving money b/c so many restaurants are offering coupons and kids eat free type programs.
knothead; We still eat out alot, not expensive places just usually buffets or local places.
