SHESPEAKS Your Power to Influence

As this holiday shopping season is nearing, how much do you plan to spend?

The holidays are fast approaching and with them, all the gift giving and celebrations. Money will be spent, but it is a matter of how much and on what. Whether what and how you buy are determined by your household financial situation or are a reflection of values (from buying local to possibly paying more for more sustainable products or foregoing products altogether and buying experiences for your loved ones), things likely change from year to year. So, have you given it any thought?

More than I did last year (23.5%)

The same as I did last year (38.7%)

Less than I did last year (29.6%)

I'm not sure (8.0%)

I've won quite a few of my gifts through sweepstakes that I save for Christmas to defray the costs of the season.

I really hope to spend less but, realistically it will be the same to more. It seems like things have just become more expensive.

Last year was the first year that I actually tallied up everything that I spent. It was about 40% more than I would have guessed! I was shocked. This year, I'll probably spend the same amount but, at least I'll be prepared for the credit card statement!

Let's face it, I always spend more than I expect. I don't even want to know how much I spend. Ignorance is bliss!

I hope to spend less. "Hope" being the operative word!

I don't spend much on Christmas anymore. My children are all grown and my family does a Pollyanna which is great. As for the grandchildren I usually give them books which they seem to love!

I usually only buy for my close friends and my parents so I don't spend as much as some. Though this year I would like to spend a little less because I am in college.
