Right now I am reading everything written by Jodi Picoult. Right now I am reading Picture Perfect. I have also recently read Keeping Faith, The Pact and My Sister's Keeper. She is a very good author and keeps you interested. I also read every article in National Geographic magazine. I love magazines. I will read almost anything.

I love Joanna Harris. She not only weaves a good story, but she writes beautifully. Same with Charles Frazier. I love John Irving - although his last few books needed a good editor. I like someone who has mastered the art of writing, in addition to being a good story teller.

Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich here too - as well as the Harry Potter Series and Diane Mott Davidson's Culinary mysteries. I also love the gregory Maguire novels

Jane Austen never gets old. If anyone likes sci-fi, Octavia Butler is (was, she died a couple of years ago) amazing and will spin your world around....you don't see many African American FEMALE sci-fi writers, and that may be the key to how she makes old ideas cutting edge new. I like some of John Irving's books - A Prayer for Owen Meany will make you cry your eyes out, in a good way. I read everything from sci-fi and fantasy (Harry Potter included) to Dickens and Arundhati Roy. The God of Small Things will take your breath away.

I love to talk about books more than anything, so I'd best wrap this up here...

It seems like John Irving had a golden period that may have passed. However, really the most recent one I read was the Fourth Hand, which I really didn't like (the "hero" reminded me too much of Garp, one of the most unpleasant protagonists of all time). But Owen Meany, Cider House Rules, even Hotel New Hampshire were so poingant, moving, funny, and smart, that if it weren't for the circus bears I might doubt they were written by the same person!

I forgot to say my all-time favorite is The Hard-Boiled Virgin by Frances Newman. 1920s Atlanta Georgia was never so neurotic. You have to have patience with her, because her writing style is a little densely packed, but no one does irony better.

John Irving had been my favorite author for a long time, but I did find A Widow For One Year a little hard to read. I really haven't read any of his books since then. I absolutely *love* Owen Meany and Cider House Rules. My newest favorite author is Jonathan Tropper, who wrote The Book of Joe and Everything Changes. He reminds me a bit of Irving in some of the pointed, hilarious dialogue.

My absolute favorite author is V.C. Andrews, I've started a collection of her books. Also Dean Kootz, and Dan Brown are excellent authors.

Anything by Greg Iles. I love when I find an author who can keep me interested from cover to cover. Usually when I start one of his books, I have a hard time putting it down. I never get enough sleep when I'm in the middle of one of his books because I stay up all night! I run into two problems though. One: I read till I finish, so I finish to quickly! Two: I get a little sad when I finish a good book. It's like I'm going to miss finding out what happens next!

Have read several of Picoult's books too -my favorite is My Sister's Keeper. All time favorites include Rushdie's 'Haroun and the Sea of Stories' and Coleho's 'The Alchemist'.

Highly recommend 'The Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and 'Motherless Brooklyn' by Jonathon Lethem. My husband read both too and recommends both to his own friends!

Finally, I really enjoy using paperbackswap.com to trade books - it has worked great for me and allows me to conveniently receive books / continue reading a lot.
