When you eat out with friends, do you split the bill evenly, contribute just what you ate, or take turns paying? Do you use Venmo, PayPal, credit cards, cash or something else? How has this changed since mobile payments became commonplace? Tell us your favorite bill-paying strategies and you'll be entered to win $25 toward your next meal (paid how you want to spend it: Venmo, PayPal, or Amazon gift card!) Enter through September 30, 2018. Winner will be randomly selected and must be a U.S. resident at least 18 years of age.

Asking for separate checks is the best way to deal with this for me. There's no confusion among friends and trying to guesstimate meal cost, tip, etc.

Split it with the person I'm with and use different kinds of coupons , sometimes we take turns for whos gonna pay like if I pay for lunch then the other person pays for lunch or dinner next time we go out but it all depends on the day.

I try to buy giftcards to the favourite restaurants if they accept it. If not, then we just use cash. Usually one person pays for the entire party.

We usually split the bill evenly if most people ordered similar amounts...either put in cash or spread evenly on all our credit cards.

There are some great apps, but we usually ask the server to split the bill.

We prefer separate checks. I'm a cheapskate. I don't order drinks, and I almost always use coupons. Most often I return the value of the coupon as the tip. It's just easier and more fair to the frugal to do it this way.

Always *try* to do separate checks. If that's not possible, the bill get splits evenly. With one group of friends that goes out for dinner twice a year, the cost of the leader's meal is split across everyone else's checks so she gets her meal for free.

We also usually split unless it's a special occasion and I invite a friend for a birthday breakfast or lunch then I will pay. The other way it's the same way, too. Depending on how high the bill is I will pay cash if under $20 or with card if over.
