Motherhood and Makeup: What's Your Take

Motherhood has changed me in many ways, but one thing it’s certainly done is increase the dark circles under my eyes. I know, I know, it’s a small price to pay for the joy my daughter brings me, but I can’t say that I love the tired-exhausted look they give me in the morning. So after lots of trial-and-error I’ve found a great concealer that I love and I never leave the house without it.

In addition to the concealer, I usually put on some mascara and blush. If I’m really getting serious, I’ll put on the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, which makes my face look like I’ve been tanning in my back yard instead of staying up late catching up on work the night before. I might throw on some lipstick later in the day, but most of the time, that’s my entire makeup routine, which I think is pretty quick and light.

For me, putting on a little makeup in the morning is a good way to pick myself up and get ready for the day. If I look better, I feel better, period. So I find it surprising when I hear from other moms that since they’ve had kids they’ve stopped wearing makeup. Some say they don’t have the time, which I find hard to believe, but others simply say that they’ve stopped caring as much.

I think that’s really sad. Not the makeup part but the part of moms not investing time in themselves. Believe me, I know how hard this is. You know this manicure I was going to get a few weekends ago? Didn’t make it because it was a sunny day and I ended up playing with my daughter in the backyard instead. But I think we have to be reminded to not give up on ourselves as women after we become moms, to remember that it’s important to feel good and take care of ourselves, whether it means putting on a little concealer, getting to the gym, or taking an afternoon off.

Makeup has always made me feel put together. After my first child was born, she slept so much I didn't really change my makeup pattern much. But after my second child was born, she never slept. I was lucky to take a quick shower each day. Then, after a few months I decided to wear a little eye makeup and foundation at home and I felt so put together again. I continue to apply some makeup each day so I can feel ready to start the day.

i think motherhood and make up go together wonderfully i think when your pregnant you kinda feel like your not so pretty cause you are all blowed up with baby, and i fine that putty on some make up and pampering your self a little when you preganant just gives yourself that little boost to carry on untill that glorious day that little buddle of happiness arrives i have worn makeup during all 4 of my pregnancys and have 3 wonderfull daughters and twin sons who are all grown up.

Well, I am surprised that you think motherhood and makeup can co-excist.....smile! I used to wear makeup, concealer, maskera, and maybe some eyeliner but I have not worn any since my daughter was born. I do not work either, maybe that has something to do with it but I would love to find an organic or some makeup made with natural skin friendly ingredients....know of any? However, one of these days, my husband and I will go out on a date and I will brush the cob webs off of the makeup box and see if I remember how to use it.....LOL

I agree that if you are used to wearing makeup, you should take some time during the day and put something on. You don't have to do yourself up totally, just wearing mascara and lip gloss helps me face the day and feel better!

Just a little bit of lipstick and some eyeliner cant make you feel 100% better about yourself, and it only takes 3 minutes. Two little things really do make a difference.

I always put some sort of makeup on, except for when I'm exercising. I feel more "put together" with makeup on and even if it's just some tinted moisturizer (and concealer!), a little bronzer and some mascara it makes answering the door when the UPS guy or a neighbor stops by unembarassing. And it makes me feel better about myself even though the two little guys I'm home with all day don't know the difference :)

If I don't get up and showered and put a face on I don't feel human. Might as well be a lump on the couch. I don't wear a lot of makeup but enough to look alive and put together. Might be in jeans and tshirt and have my hair pulled back but I always have eyeshadow and lipgloss on.

I have three girls and I stay at home. I love make-up I wear it daily, a little concealer, blush, a natural shadow and mascara. Just to brighten up my look, and look fresh and natural. I think it is good for my girl s to see my taking time to look nice. I see so many moms in ponytails and sweatpants at school, bus stop library. I don't beleive that what they were wearing before they became moms. I am determine to stay as fabulous as I was before I waddled into being a mommy. I feel great! I love my girls and I look good! I little workout squeezed will make you look and feel better too!

I hear ya ladies! I'm a SAHM and i used to always dress "comfy" and not wear makeup b/c i figured if i was not going out why bother. Some time over the past year or so i just started wearing makeup to cover up the adult acne i started getting and i noticed i felt better about myself. From there i started experimenting w/ dif. looks and started to dress nice and i gotta say i feel so much better when i'm "done up". Its good for us moms to remember to take care of ourselves and not feel one bit guilty!

I am a real girly girl, but it's not because of that that I wear makeup. I have rosacea, so it's kind of a given that I'll wear makeup everyday. I haven't changed my habit since my daughter was born, but if I didn't have the Rosacea, I would understand the "Mommy syndrome" of not doing as much for yourself for the sake of your kids. Plenty of other things have changed in my life, but not that one thing :)
