If you're like us, sometime multiple trips to the grocery store are required in any given week! We were interested in better understanding how you, our members, shop for groceries so we created a Grocery Shopping survey to find out!

The survey was fielded from July 26- August 10, 2025 and here is what you had to say.

Topline Insights:

  • Taste, Quality of Product, and Price are the top factors driving brand loyalty.
  • Browsing the shelf for prices/special discounts has the greatest influence on purchase decisions when shopping in-store.
  • Product Availability and Price are the biggest factors that drive shoppers to purchase another brand.
  • Store brand purchases are favored over name brands now vs. the past six months, while name brand purchases were favored over store brands one year ago.
Do these findings surprise you? Let us know in the comments below!

If you’re anything like me, a “quick grocery run” can turn into three trips, two forgotten items, and one impromptu snack haul. Life be lifin’, and the pantry does not rest! So yeah.... that’s me every week!

Most of the time, I also will choose a store brand over a name brand if there is a significant difference in the price. I do have a few brands that I am still loyal to. If I have time, I clip electronic coupons before shopping.

I appreciate being able to see the results on how other people shop too. The name vs store brands for me most of the time the store brands win for sales/cost/loyalty points I do not mind trying them & most times they're not much different from name brands but if they disappoint I'll wait for name brand to go on sale & stock up

People buy store brands because most of them are similar to the more expensive ones. Also if you compare ingredients, some are quality at a good price.

Not surprised at store brands are increasingly being purchased due to how the economy is right now, and the realization of both of these name brands are very, very similar to the store brand so why not purchase that!

The second survey result, “Browsing the shelf for prices/special discounts has the greatest influence on purchase decisions when shopping in-store. “ does not seem to address the use of electronic (maybe physical) coupons. I definitely look for specials on my first choice brands as well as store brands. Once I locate the product I plan to purchase, I look for that product on the store’s app coupon section. It may take a bit more time overall, as I review store coupons and make tentative selections prior to my shopping trip, however, being aware of available coupons for the brand(s) I prefer helps to lower my shopping bill.

I'm not surprised store brands are now favored over name brands due to the rise in prices of everything at the grocery stores.

I have always shopped for the best prices whether or not we were doing well at the time. I hate overpaying for things. I don't buy many store brands except for some canned vegetables and canned fruits. As I watch the prices grow I will stop buying certain items and make changes to what I buy. I shop 3 stores, one is a club store. I find good prices at the club store for items that we use regularly. Other items that I buy pretty regularly, I will compare the prices at all three and confirm they have stock. I keep my spending as low as I can this way and I am mindful of what I am buying especially at the club store because unless you are going to use it all it is not worth the cheaper price. There are only 3 of us at home so I buy accordingly.

I don't know? I never use to think Price didn't matter if the product was top. I mean I make fairly decent money but now a days even good money isn't enough. Price is starting to matter more and more.

I think taste, quality and price are the most important things. The price of the item is important, and sometimes you have to shop at different stores to get a good price. You will also find that the store brand product is just as good, as well, and in most cases will save you money. Actually, I think store brand products are your best buy. In most cases, they are cheaper than the regular brands. Garnet R. Staley
