In our latest episode of the SheSpeaks podcast, Women of Influence, we sat down with Tamsen Fadal to discuss menopause and the lack of discussion, awareness, and education around this life stage that affects millions of women around the world. Tamsen Fadal is an award-winning journalist, menopause advocate, filmmaker, and content creator. She recently left her 30-year career as a news anchor to dedicate herself to advocacy for menopause and women in midlife.
In the episode, we discuss the lack of research, the ongoing stigma, and limited understanding in both healthcare and the workplace. Tamsen shares with us the growing movement to provide better resources, support, and early education for women.
This sounds like a very valuable book.
I'm currently in peri-menopause for a few years now. Some days it's hormone hell. Since I began researching the topic of peri-menopause and menopause I found that women want to know they're normal with what they are experiencing, including myself, yet at times it feels information is lacking and we feel alone. I've written about my experience going through midlife, including a bit about my peri-menopause, on my blog and social media accounts. When I do I get women thanking me for talking about it. It is a private topic but maybe we need to address it more instead of brushing it off as the "usual female hormonal issues" and an eye-roll from the audience. I'm hoping to win a copy so I myself can read it and maybe pass it on to a reader that may benefit from it too. ~Allie
I haven't experienced menopause yet myself but would love the book for myself for when that time comes.
I would like to learn more!
I would like a free Signed copy of this book. I truly believe that the more woman take about their symptoms and what works great for their "Hot flashes" is a book I will read.
To myself I am still trying to figure it all out.
I am just over 50, I would love to read this book
good to know
I'll admit, I'm about to turn 40 and the idea of menopause scares me! Interested in reading this book.
This sounds like a great book for any woman!
I would love to get a copy of this!
I would love to get a copy of this!
I find that most women learn about it through their older female relatives still, which is wild in 2024. I lost my mom at 30 and don't have any older female relatives that I can talk to about it. I also live in a town where there's only one GYN (male) that takes my insurance and he wasn't very helpful when I asked him if I could be entering pre-menopause. I resorted to gooling to find out if I'm starting to experience it. Even then, it's sites like WebMD and the Mayo Clinic and the information is standard boilerplate. How it hasn't been studied more in-depth is mind-blowing until you start reading about Medical Bias.
Even as a woman, I need to be more informed about this.
