Go to your happy place.

One of the simplest ways to unwind is to go to a place that makes you feel good- literally. A place where you can do what makes you happy! It doesn’t have to be a long process, but setting aside just a few minutes to relax can make a big difference. Maybe that means lying in bed with a blanket and a book. Maybe it’s taking a walk to enjoy nature. It could be getting some exercise or a much-needed yoga session. Make use of essential oils.

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts. Different types of oils have various uses, so there’s a few ways to reap the benefits. A great introduction into using oils is aromatherapy. You can diffuse them into the air to produce a pleasant, soothing scent. 

Lavender, chamomile, and peppermint oils smell great and can make you feel even better when you breathe them in. Or, you can apply essential oils topically for headache/pain relief. There are a few things I turn to when I want to relax and take it easy.

1. Reading is a great way to take me to a different world and let me use my imagination.

2. Watching my "guilty pleasures " on Bravo

3. Taking my dog and whichever foster dog I have staying at our house for long walks in the woods or on the beach and watch them retrieve and swim. There's pure joy in watching an animal in their element doing what they love and having fun.

We live on the Oneida River and I love sitting/laying on the couch, in my comfy cozie jammies, looking out my big picture window, with a fire in our wood stove and watching the Dipper ducks. The Dipper ducks are so funny to watch as they all go under the water at the same time, then start one by one popping to the surface! The things the male Dipper ducks do to get the female to notice them are so funny & beautiful to watch! They only come January thru February sometimes staying till early March! When the Dippers arrive the first neighbor who sees them lets everyone else know! Our house on the river is our fortress of solitude! A bad day at work is forgotten by the time the garage door is opening!
