If you think about your best memories of summer when you were a kid, you might picture yourself swimming in the neighborhood pool, camping under the stars, or running around in the grass. Our memories may be as diverse as we are, but we all likely have one thing in common: ice cream.
Who doesn't love refreshing ice cream on a hot summer day?
Luckily, ice cream is not just for kids anymore. Check out the latest trends in ice cream... for grown-ups. Then enter to win a $50 Visa card to buy your favorites for the whole family!
Don't just settle for chocolate, vanilla or mint chocolate chip. New flavor combinations are endless.
Try ice cream that has a spicy kick, including garam masala, roasted garlic or wasabi peas.
Want to eat ice cream instead of dinner? No problem. Try a flavor that tastes like a meal, such as lobster, chicken & waffles or candied bacon. You can even have an ice cream veggie side, including cauliflower, mushy peas or curry carrot.
There's also Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Guiness, gold leaf or activated charcoal. And don't forget the Heinz Ketchup ice cream created by a shop in Ireland to honor Ed Sheeran. The choices are endless!
Note: all of the above mentioned ice cream flavors are real, though clearly not available everywhere. Check out local, artisinal ice cream shops for unique tastings, which are becoming increasingly popular and easier to find.
It's not just the tastes that are new this year. Ice cream is coming in all forms.
There's a shop in New York City called 10Below that pours liquid ice cream onto a metal pan, then scrapes it into a roll. It looks a bit like a wrap, filled with toppings.
In Fayetteville, Arkansas, a store called Kream grills donuts, mixes ice cream with cereal, and makes a crispy warm donut ice cream sandwich.
And we're obsessed with the Cotton Candy Cloud Cones, served at the Milk Train Cafe in London. Cotton candy surrounds a soft serve, making it look like the ice cream is floating on a cloud.
Halo Top ice cream has been around for a couple of years. It's a refreshing treat at 360 calories or less for the entire pint. Check out our review of three of their flavors here:
Now there's a whole slew of Halo Top competitors offering up low-cal ice cream. Breyer's® recently released Breyer's Delights, which is 20 grams of protein and less than 330 calories per pint. Artic Zero has flavors under 400 per pint that are lactose, fat and gluten free. Even ice cream classic Ben & Jerry's has gotten into the low-cal game with their new Moo-Phoria. But our favorite low-cal ice cream was Chilly Cow since it most felt like we were eating full-fat ice cream.
