What Changes Does McDonald's Need to Make?

The struggling fast-food giant's sales have fallen recently and their new CEO, Steve Easterbrook, unveiled a turnaround plan on Monday morning. And he did not mince words when discussing the company's problems.

Recognizing that recent performance was "poor" and that "the numbers don't lie" - some of the challenges he faces are:

  • Tough competition from growing burger chains like Shake Shack, Five Guys and Smashburger (consumers feel that burgers from other chains taste better and are made from higher quality ingredients even though they cost more)
  • Consumers are also embracing "fast casual food" dining from Chipotle and Panera
  • There is increased competition from a full blown breakfast war, notably from Taco Bell, and the McMuffin is under fire

But what Easterbrook really wants to change is the quality of the food and the stale brand image. He stressed that they need to innovate more. What do you think?

I think they need more diet friendly menu items

Grill their burgers, not fry them on a griddle. Their hamburgers are terrible. The only thing I like a McDonalds are their Fruit & Yogurt Parfaits and their fries. I won't eat their burgers. I rarely if ever eat there. Don't try and put jalapeno peppers and tons of products on the burgers to make them more appealing. If the base isn't good, then piling stuff on it isn't going to make it more appealing. You have to improve on the "groundwork- the basics". Make the plain burgers taste better. The burger is the mainstay of the fast food restaurant.

The meat needs to be better quality!!! No chemicals added 100% real beef and chicken from cows and chicken that have been raised in a free range farm ! The other day I saw a post where a lady had two worms in her Mchicken! I honestly have to say that Mcdonalds has to do ALOT of work to change their image! Organic food would help them so much!

What about a soup and salad combo where you can add a fruit and yogurt parfait too!

Love the clementines in kids' meals. More fruit and tasty, healthy choices are a winning combo. We also LOVE spicy. Spice up the nugget options and/or a spicy chicken sandwich for a sure hit.

I think that McDonald's needs to become a healthier fast food alternative. They have more "fake/unhealthy" ingredients that almost any other fast food place. I, personally, will no longer purchase from them because of it. I will go to places that are GMO-free, preservative free, etc.

I like it just the way it is, kind of a nostalgic thing, takes you back to your childhood. Everyone seems to try to do it better, but sometimes the old way is just fine.

McDonalds needs to make French fries like they do for Europe - with only 3 ingredients! No anti-foaming agents. And also, to use beef without ammonia or antibiotics, or whatever they are mixing into the beef. Natural is better.

More YUMMY healthy choices at McDonalds. Their parfaits are awesome! Their egg white McMuffins are really good. Have more good breakfast choices.

I really would like to see McDonald's offer higher quality and more recognizable meats. I would have no problem paying more money for a better quality product. With the low prices they have it makes you wonder how they can afford to offer meat products at that price which makes me wonder what we are really eating. I would also like employees offer a little restraint on shaking the salt on the french fries. They are almost always wait Too salty. More fresh options would be a nice alternative as well baked potatoes baked sweet potatoes fresh salads etc.

if the fruit was fresh not frozen that they put in the parfaits and less salt on the French fries or better yet none at all

The chicken needs to be better quality. I don't eat beef and can't do their chicken sandwiches because it's full of grizzle.

If the McDonald's in my area would hire employees that cared--cared about the customers, cared about their job, cared about the cleanliness of the restaurant--cared about anything!!! they would be much better off. The food is not the worst thing about the McDonald's in my experience--it's the terrible customer service.
