School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

In the 7th grade, there was a guy named Keith that always joked around and teased me since he knew I had a crush on him! Well, it was our big end of the year fun day where we go outside and play games and compete in casual sport competitions all day. During a game of tug o' war, our side lost and as we were falling and the other side was still pulling the rope, my leg got a pretty good burn. I was lying on the ground writhing in pain and all of the sudden someone picked me up and started carrying me. Lo and behold it was my crush Keith. I looked up and everyone was staring (even his stupid girlfriend Wendy) at us trying to figure out what happened. He walked me over to the bleachers, dusted off the grass and grit from my burned leg and asked if I was ok and left to get me some help. Needless to say, my heart skipped a few beats. It was one of the sweetest moments from my young life and when I think of it every now and then, I can't help but smile!

My favorite back to school memory is back to school shooping and the first day outfit. I work in the office of a high school and I still shop for my first day outfit. We started back today and I wore my new first day of school outfit.

I had gone to Catholic school from kindergarten and an all girls high school which in the 50's-60's was very strict and disciplined. I was a really good student except when I failed the NY state Regents in geometry by 2 points and had to go to summer school. I went to summer school at a public high school in the Bronx and boy was it an eye opener for me. The freedom of not wearing school uniforms and having guys in the class(come on now I was 16). I did manage to pass the Renents the second time with flying colors despite the distractions. It was a school experience that I will never forget!

My favorite memory is going shopping for new clothes. I can distinctly remember wanting the dresses when I was younger and then wanting the Guess jeans and denim top when I was older.

I remember the butterflies in my stomach the night before the 1st day and the next morning. I still get them wen the kids go back. I still laugh at the new school clothes we wore the first week back. Heavy sweaters and actual corduroy pants. We were all sweating in 80 degree temperatures. The next week we were looking for regular tee shirts and jeans. The best memories are the great teachers I had and friends I made that I still have today 30 years later. We can still share the memories, the good and embarrassing! Lol

Every year, my mom and I would go school shopping ALL day long one day. My parents lived off a single income until I was 12, and we rarely went out and just spent money especially on clothes. It was such a "Girls Day Out" with my mom. We would wake up really early, get a Krispy Kreme doughnut across from the mall, and start hitting the sales rack. Midday we took a break at the food court where we could have McDonald's french fries AND Sbarro...at the SAME time. Then, she'd let me drag her to find a couple matching accessories to help mix-and-match my outfits. It was so much fun, and I always felt so pretty on the first day of school because of her. :)

My favorite school memory is of doing the classic "egg drop" project back in Elementary school. Don't ask me why it sticks so clearly in my mind but it does! I think it was the excitement of it all, getting to build my own egg safety net, being creative, and then the thrill of getting to climb up on the school's roof-- that's not something you get to do every day!

Our kindergarten was all day, and every afternoon we actually had a quiet/nap time. I remember how my mom made me a nap mat, it was navy with flowers. It was like having part of home with me.

I remember picking out my first day of kindergarten dress. I was so happy with that dress, that although I was scared to leave my mom, it kinda made it okay.

I have so many great memories of school, it's hard to pick just one. Over all third grade was my favorite year. Our teacher Mr. Pepin used to play the guitar and sing with us. Ever week there was a student of the week, we all made posters of ourselves with photos, favorites and information. I loved hearing everyone's favorite things. It was a great year.

My favorite back to school memory is when I changed schools to a new middle school. I am an Air Force brat so I changed schools often but at this school I had developed a nick name the first day--- "the girl with the light eyes" by 5th period I met my best friend of more than a decade when she asked me for a pencil even though she had already had a pencil--- she just wanted to talk to the girl with light eyes that everyone was talking about! Best memory!

Growing up we moved around a lot and when I started 8th grade and my first time to use lockers and move from room to room and teacher to teacher, it was scary. I was a nervous wreck. This was a New school, New town, New State for me and beginning my teenage years was scary enough. This one school was all 8th graders, no other grades. On the first day in the auditorium I sat near this one girl, I was shy and scared but I decided to introduce myself to her. "Hi, my name is B... and I'm NEW here." This girl smiled and turned to me and said "We are all NEW here." (one school was designed for only 8th graders, that's where the "we are all new here comes in to play") I laughed and smiled back and introduced myself to her and explained that we had just moved to town from another state. Turned out that this girl happen to be in my homeroom class and we stayed friends through high school (I was luck we lived in that town through my high school graduation).

I always loved finding out who my teacher was and who was in my class! Exciting!
