School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

Oh I have so many wonderful memories of school, but I always adored acting. My happiest memories are of school plays/musical, from my 4th grade production of "Litter Revolts" (where I played Apple Core and wore a pillow case that my mom decorated to look like a chewed up apple) to my later high school productions of Brigadoon, Blood Brothers, and more. I loved the camaraderie and things I learned! So great!

My favorite school memory is my fourth period class which was Choir. I loved to meet my friends there and I loved and still do love singing. Because of my involvement with the school choir and 4-H, I was invited to spend a week at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana with fellow singers around the state and we cut an album while we were there. I still have the album (LP) and one of my favorite songs we recorded was "Back Home Again in Indiana". Great times..

One of my favorite moments is when we took our class trip. We went to Hershey Park and had such a great time. I was in 7th grade at the time. I still have pictures and evertime I look at them I smile. It was such a special day

My FAVORITE school memory was making homecoming court. I will have to post pictures when I get home later this week, but it was so special to me because both my nomination and vote were solely by my peers, it made it special to feel so loved by my classmates!

My favorite memory is when my elementary school had "Field Day" which was huge picnic where we were joined by our families. We played games such as the 3 legged race and our parents even got into it! We had such fun that to this day it is one of my warmest childhood memories.

my first day of college- I had to take 2 buses and walked onto campus in the most glorious San Francisco fog- it felt like a blanket wrapping itself around me and urging me forward, and then the spires of the church popped through the fog and the buildings shone like beacons calling me, and I knew I was HOME and ad found the right school. :) And yeah, I left part of my heart there too!

My favorite school memory was 6th grade and I joined Safety Patrol. That was a huge thing for me because I was painfully shy but I really wanted to wear that bright orange crossing guard strap across my chest. I was so proud to win the "Safety Patrol Gold Badge" not once, but 4 times that year for doing an exceptional job crossing at my post. I was the first student to win it 4 times in one year.

My favorite memory is of my friend, Barbara. We became friends in first grade and we are still friends today. We've "been there" for each other through thick & thin and I wouldn't trade her friendship for anything.!

My favorite memory would be meeting my husband. We lived in England(which is an awesome memory in itself). Military brats. We met through mutual friends and we quickly became best friends. We were always hanging out and just enjoying being in England. Meeting him was the best thing to happen to me. Years after graduating, we both realized that we loved each other beyond friendship. After 17 years of knowing each other, 9 years of that married and 3 kids later....He's still my best friend and meeting him is still my fondest memory.

first grade first day--nervous little girl given a lump of crayola clay and told to make what we dreamed--it was the best first day ever and I loved it!

My favorite school memory was my best friend's car, a hideous orange Datsun. We called it the GarfieldMobile. That ugly beast represented freedom, and we spent a long time in it. We were sad to see it go to the junkyard.

Growing up I never had friends in school. I was awkwardly shy and did not talk to anyone, really. I grew up with a lot of home problems and had depression bad. I remember I volunteered for leaf raking for senior citizens through school though. One of the most popular girls Kelly offered me some of her hot chocolate in front of her friends. It was unheard of for someone so popular to even admit someone like me existed and she did it with pride. I never felt so good and special in my life.

I have a few fond memories, but the one that stands out has to do with middle school in the early '70's when the school district voted to let girls wear pants/dungarees to school!!! It was a real victory for us females!

I took a picture of my daughter on every first day of school and made a Shutterfly book out of them on her h.s. graduation
