School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

My birthday is September 4th so it was always either the first day of school or right around that first day,I received a lot of school related items as gifts, clothes shoes etc and when I was very young, I didn't care for that so much butas I got older, I loved it !! I could not wait to see my "school" related gifts. Going back to school is right before Autumn and it has always been my favorite season so September is a magical month still to me, it brings celebration, new beginnings and Autumn !!

When I was a first grader back in the early 1980s, we did a "pen pal" project. We wrote our names and addresses on a piece of paper and each student was given a helium balloon (in either blue or gold, our school colors) with a message on it asking whomever found the balloon to write us back and let us know where the balloon was found! A few weeks later, I received a letter in the mail from a girl about my age who lived in a town about 50-100 miles away (can't recall exactly) saying she found my balloon! I was so excited because my balloon traveled SO far away and I was the only person in my whole class to receive a response. We were "pen pals" for a few years but lost contact.

Definitely freshman going into sophomore year of high school. We went on a field trip to the beach and my guy friends played catch with me. They literally threw me back and forth to each other! My good friend T was there and he had a great day too. Later on we'd lose touch over the years, but we reconnected on Facebook. Somehow we found our way back into each other's lives and into each other's arms.

My favorite school memory was whenever I was able to drive to school - always stopping in the mornings with my sister to get something for breakfast and hanging out with my friends before the school bell would ring!

I don't remember the specific grade, but around third or fourth, my mom went to the bank and withdrew cash to take me school clothes shopping. I remembering seeing all of the bills in the envelope and thinking, "wow, that's a lot of money. And she is spending it on me." That was the fist year I was super into the items we purchased, and I took great care of everything because I knew what it all really meant.

I remember how excited I was to start school when I turned five and on the first day of school, my teacher scolded me for some silly thing and I ran crying to my mother when she came to visit me in the classroom. She was shocked to see me bursting out in tears and when she came to know that it was just for some silly thing/comment, she told me "This is school honey, You can't always have your way here"..I still remember it. From there it has been a life learning process and I think the best of my years have been when I was in school. Wish, I could freeze time then and never outgrow schooling years. That was carefree time, no worries just had to study and do homework and that's it. Now I advise my kids to enjoy their school years because that is going to the best time of their life.

From third grad through 8th I went to the same small school and had built a reputation for being quiet and shy. I was one of those kids who would pray the teacher would not call on me. Well, for April Fool's Day in 8th grade the teacher sent home a detention slip (as a joke) with the reason given that I was talking too much in class. My parents and my friends got a good laugh out of that one and my mom kept the slip in a scrapbook for me when I graduated.

I remember how I always felt good and I would just give money away to other students and buy them pretzels and ice cream because I always liked to share. It made me feel really good to see the other kids happy :)

I always loved playing Four Square and Horse with my friends during recess when I was young and as I got older I liked learning from my favorite teacher how to play Chess in Chess club.

My fondest memories of school are my 6- 8th grade years at my elemenatary school, Villa Maria Academy. Dances, sing-a-longs and putting on Broadway shows were my favorite times in school and to this day I still keep in touch with my teachers and classmates.

Playing Thumbs Up at the end of the day, lights out in the classroom, which would determine the order in which we'd get in line to go home.
