Share Your Holiday Traditions to Win

There are plenty of signs that the holidays are coming.  The nights get darker earlier, the weather starts to get colder and in some parts of the country it's already snowing. City streets are decorated with lights and garlands and store windows are embossed with snowy scenes.  With Thanksgiving now passed, how do you make the holidays fun and keep the spirit running through the end of the year?

For many of us the holidays is a time when we return to a childhood feeling but there is always opportunity to introduce a new tradition for you and your family.  What do you like to do to make this time of year special?  It's so much fun to go out for coffee or have wine with old friends or perhaps you go ice skating or take winter walk.  If you love crafts or cooking there's such a huge variety of fabulous recipes and projects you can make and thanks to the internet the new and creative ideas for the holidays are endless.  For some of us, making popcorn, kicking back and watching a family movie is the perfect way to spend family time together.

We'd like to hear your favorite, most creative or best loved holiday tradition or a review of your favorite holiday movie.

To be entered to win one of our prizes this week, simply create a review for a holiday movie or share your holiday traditions in the comment section below.  Maybe you'll get some ideas to add to your family favorites this year!

My family's favorite holiday tradition is going to get our Christmas tree. For the past 8 years, we have breakfast with 3 other families and then all go together to get our trees. We have gone to cut-your-own and pre-cut businesses. For the first few years we went out for breakfast. Two years ago we wanted to save $$ and realized that we could cook for a lot less than what we were paying to eat out. Now we rotate who hosts and do a pot luck - usually during Thanksgiving weekend. It is a great way to start off the Christmas season and visit with our friends!

Our family Christmas tradition has always been to go to my grandpas and exchange gifts, stories, memories, and food with all of my aunts and cousins and my parents of course. Afterwards we ride around and look at Christmas lights and listen to Christmas music then head home to wait on Santa!!

My husband and I spend Christmas eve with our extended families where we share a meal and memories of Christmases past. Then on Christmas morning we hit the road (or airport) for a getaway. Just the two of us go somewhere to ski or just spend time together focusing on us and re kindling what we may have let fade throughout the hectic year. We usually return home new years day.

We are starting a new tradition...instead of just helping the homeless throughout the year (we still do) we will take time out to go feed the homeless and give them warm clothes on Christmas day. We gave out a lot of warm stuff last week but there's never enough. My kids are excited and they are 7, 11, & 13.

I love Christmas, from the eggnog, to the smell of fresh balsam trees & the crisp winter air, I love everything about this time of the year. Especially watching Christmas movies on TV. The best Christmas movies to watch during this time of the year in my option are, 1.?Its a Wonderful life?, it's a must, I also like 2. ?White Christmas? which I watched for the first time last year & I wish somebody told me about this movie sooner it is a love story & has Christmas music & the military, And deep down it is about how important it is to help a friend in need. Other movies which make Christmas, Christmas to me are 3. Love Actually which I didn't like the first two times I watched it but now I am in love with it, I can watch it over & over again. It is a funny love story w/ a great sound track & lots of beautiful people in it. As you can see I love Christmas shows & movies & cookies. I hope you all have a great holiday season & get some relaxation time in w/ the family & a movie.

Every year during the week of Christmas, my mom bakes a ton of delicious fruit cakes while my sisters and I help her out. We also watch A Christmas Story on TV since there's always a marathon of it!

We don't have too many holiday traditions. But my daughter wants to start one this year so that we can all open one gift together on Christmas Eve.

Growing up, my family did not have a fireplace so we did not participate in the whole stocking stuffer thing. Instead, we did the 12 days of Christmas. The 12 days leading up to Christmas, we would each get a small present to open. This is a tradition I would like to keep alive once my daughter outgrows the baby/toddler stage.

For the past several years our family has stayed the night at The light of Christmas. It's a wonderful christian camp that string lights on anything that doesnt move. They have fresh donuts and carolers a life sized nativity and pony rides. Really beautiful and fun. We get up the next morning and head down to Seattle and walk around Pike's Place Market drinking cocoa and coffee and stroll around the city. Its beautiful and festive. I cant imagine a Christmas with out this tradition.

We have a very involved Christmas tradition but recently have added a few that I really like. We do not fill stockings until Epiphany. Epiphany is when the three wise-men brought their gifts to Jesus. Our kids love the separation of presents and stockings, and we love remembering what we a re really celebrating. Another new tradition is making a cake and singing happy birthday to Jesus on christmas Eve.
