   By SheSpeaksTeam  Sep 28, 2011

Valentine's Day may be months away but that doesn't mean a great date can't happen tonight, this weekend or this month. Whether you're single, dating or married, it's always a good idea to have a few solid date ideas in your back pocket for the right occasion.

Dinner and a movie is a classic. But even the classics can use an update every once and a while. And, for many of us, a free hour, afternoon or  evening  is incredibly precious. So let's make sure that time is best infused with fun, excitement and a little bit of romance.

The SheSpeaks Team has put together 5 Great Date Ideas that are pretty easy to put into action. But we want to hear from YOU. What date ideas make it on your Top 10 list? What have you dreamed about? Or what great date did a friend go on that you wished someone would do for you? Let's share our Best Date Ideas and create a fantastic resource for SheSpeaks members to turn to whenever a little inspiration is needed.

And your efforts won't go unrewarded. Post a great date idea below and you'll be entered to WIN a Romantic Dinner for Two Gift Basket. A second lucky winner will receive a Picnic Backpack ($50 value) and a third winner will receive a Best Romantic Classics 100 CD.The contest will start Wednesday, September 28th and will end Tuesday, October 4th at midnight EST.

5 Date Ideas:

1) Spend an afternoon in an orchard

You probably haven't been to an orchard since you were a kid. Or if you have kids, you haven't enjoyed the experience alone. Take advantage of the fall weather and drive into the country together and pick some fresh fruit, take a hay ride, and get some apple cider. Then go home and bake a pie together!

Not sure how to find your local orchard? Try this website http://www.applejournal.com/trail.htm

2) Bring it Indoors

Sometimes after a long week, the only place you want to be is home. That's ok. Bring the romance indoors. Pick up some delicious dessert, place a blanket and pillows on the living room floor, light some candles, dim the lights and put on some relaxing music. Don't forget to turn the TV and cell phones off and you'll be transported to your own personal paradise.

3. Get your hands dirty

Take a class together! Cooking in the kitchen alone may not be that much fun, but doing it together can be a wonderful exprience. Sign up to make sushi, croissants or chocolate truffles. If you want out of the kitchen, try a pottery or dance class. The point is to get out of the house and try something new... together.

4. Stargaze

A star-lit sky can be incredibly romantic. If you live where the city lights won't get in the way, pack a picnic with wine, cheeses and sweets and find a great place to look up at the stars and enjoy the fresh air before cooler weather arrives. If you're near a city, don't worry. Visit your local planetarium. The view can be just as amazing. To find your local planetarium... http://www.planjam.com/planetarium.html

5. Build something you can play with

Take a trip to your local hobby shop and pick out a project you can work on together. Maybe build a boat, a rocket or a kite and then take it out for a spin once you're finished.

Now it's Your turn. Tell us your Great Date Ideas!

My husband and I love to go out to eat to our favorite restaurant, then to see the latest movie we have been waiting to see at the theater (sharing lots of buttered popcorn of course) and then if we can stay awake...we will drop by Starbuck's for great coffee and conversation before heading back home to our 4 sons!

The perfect date would be to go to one of the country fairs that are going on during the fall season, than later stop at some quaint roadside restaurant.

We live in a town close to Chattanooga, TN so my husband and I love to go to downtown and walk the Riverwalk after eating at one of the excellent restuarants they have their! Our favorite is Sekisu! There is a park beside the river that has lots of sidewalks that are great for walking plus there is an amazing walking bridge that goes over the river that allows you to see the breathtaking views of Chattanooga!

I have a 'couple' of ideas. Hahaha #1 My husband loves to go with me for a pedi but will never go alone and never admit to his friends. I love to surprise him with a trip to the local nail place where is bring drinks and snacks. #2 Go old fashioned and hit the drive in. Who doesn't love sharing a bucket of popcorn with your honey... Trying to touch hands and maybe getting the yawn arm stretch. #3 Camping in the back yard. Pitch a tent and cuddle up to stay warm. Get a mini vacation from the kids out back and make the neighbors wonder as you star gaze, share smorz, and have some alone time. Kim (married 13 yrs with 2 kids)

Make a fort in your living room like you did when you were a child. Play video games, eat popcorn and watch scary movies all night. In this economy, staying home and getting creative is both fun AND affordable!

A date night w/my husband.....We have the kids stay w/grandma and grandpa then go out for ice cream, then come home and cuddle in bed watching a rented movie. Fall asleep in each others arms. That's all we need. My husband works 16 hour days. So anytime we get to spend alone is a blessing. :)

I like using sires like Groupon or LivingSocial.com for deals and packages for dates or long romantic weekends. I've purchased some deals like: Lunch, Wine and 2 hour Horseback riding tour in the wine country in CA. Cooking classes with a 3 course meal and bottle of wine at the end of the class. Getaways like 3-5 nights in Mexico, Vegas or elsewhere with an All-Inclusive package deal with all meals, drinks, and rooms in one affordable price package.

I have been single for six years, no dating either. However, a great date occurred last night. A friend of mine came over and sat with me, neither of us looking to date, yet it was so natural and wonderful as we sat talking for hours last night. We are both disabled with severe pain and we spent our time together talking, our disabilities are the same as we both sat talking I finally rested my arm on his leg, we held hands and shared truth of our past mistakes in relationships no hold bars, no excuses for anything we had done to our ex's and we just sat together. When he left he gave me a big and long hug with a kiss on the cheek. Knowing we are both like new babies trying to walk again as he to has been single for 4 yrs. now. This is my favorite date and my favorite idea of a great date for others who have been single and scared to start over at our age. What a smile you will have when this beautiful and perfect date occurred and will happen for you too. Never say Never.

My favorite date with my husband is to head downtown on a Saturday morning. We usually get something for breakfast, sometimes a full big breakfast, and sometimes a pastry and a cup of coffee. Then we walk to the square to visit our local farmer's market. We manage to spend quiet time together, enjoy some of the merchants in our local community, and get some groceries for the week all at the same time. But it's relaxing - we feel like we're on a date, not like we're checking tasks off our to-do list.

For my husband's 50th birthday, we went to New York and went to the discount theater ticket booth and got tickets and went to a show.

I always thought going to a theme park or a Carnival. You get a chance to walk around and look at the different sites. You can always find something to talk about and you dont have that Ackward feeling of trying to keep the conversation going. Its low key and fun!

We are on a fixed income and certainly are not newlyweds. To keep the romance alive and not break the budget, we get creative by just cooking our favorite dishes, putting candlelight on for atmosphere, and eating in front of our fireplace. We set the mood with our favorite music, wine for me and a cocktail for hubby and we feel like we are almost on a cruise or all-inclusive vacation! Works for us!!!!

My husband and I went to a fun place called Fat Cats, and played miniature golf, bumper cars, bowling, and had dinner there at Cafe Rio, and went across the street to see a movie. It was a very fun and memorable night.

My favorite thing to do for a date night is to walk through a mall, people watch and "dream" about things we want to do - just like we did when we dated. With two kids ready for college, we are almost in a same financial situation!

For me it is the simple things. Just spending time with together. I have a wonderful time just walking the dog while holding hands and talking about our day.
